You smiled as you held a bag in your hands, humming and walking outside of the building to go to the place you often visited:

A small temple just outside the village.

It wasn't really far from your place, so you didn't really mind walking your way there. The sounds of birds chirping lifted up your spirits as you continued on to your destination.

When you got there, you quietly walked over to the entrance. You took a peek inside and saw the usual sight at the temple. Children were seated around one man, some looking over his shoulders while some sat in front of him, either looking at him or the book he was holding.

The man was none other than Ishida Mitsunari, a man infamous for being a Toyotomi loyalist as well as a person harboring intense hatred for Tokugawa Ieyasu. He didn't have that usual stern, cold expression on his face, though. There was a gentle look in his eyes when a little boy tugged on his sleeve.

"Mitsu-sensei," He called out, making Mitsunari turn his attention to him, "how do you read this?"

The little boy pointed at a certain portion of the book, to which Mitsunari shortly replied, "'Sky'."

Letting out an 'ahhh', they continued to silently read the book, asking questions if they couldn't understand something.

You smiled to yourself and proceeded to enter the building, "Sorry to interrupt, but food's here!" The children excitedly turned to you before running towards you, some happily yelling out your name with an affectionate 'neesan!'.

You set the bag down and opened it, revealing a box with plenty of manju inside. They happily dug in, munching and chatting amongst themselves. You walked over to Mitsunari, who was still sitting in the middle of the room with the book in his hands. He was staring at the children who were eating their well-deserved snack.

"Don't worry, Mitsunari-sama." You smiled, pulling out another bag seemingly out of nowhere. You kneeled beside him and set the bag down, opening it. "There's a separate set for you."

He said nothing, but simply started to eat the food at a fast pace. You knew of his poor eating habits, but it seems that when he's at the temple, all those problems wash away. Even for just a moment. Not a single word was exchanged between the two of you as Mitsunari ate, the chatter of the children in the background.

You stood up when he was halfway done. "I'll just get something for you to drink." You said, but before you could walk away, Mitsunari grabbed your wrist tightly. He gave you an irritated look as he tugged down on your wrist. You sighed, but complied with his wishes when you once again sat down beside him.

You watched him eat as you lay your hands on your lap. Seeing this side of him wasn't bad. The children loved him even through his intimidating demeanor, and while he tried to build up a wall between him and them, that wall easily broke. Whatever pieces that were left are now long gone.

Your thoughts were interrupted when you felt a tug on your kimono. You turned to the source to see a girl twiddling her fingers, a small blush on her cheeks.

"You can do it, Mayu!" Was the shout from one of the boys in the group of children behind her, making you give them a confused look. You turned back to the girl and smiled.

"What is it?" You asked, leaning toward her.

"Uhm.... (F-F/N)-neesan...." She whispered, shaking in her spot. Poor girl must be so nervous. What could she want to say to you? "A-a-are..... Are yo-you...!" Mayu paused and took a deep breath, curling her hands into fists.

The children looked at her in anticipation, which only fed your confusion.

Mayu opened her mouth, but no words came out. She slumped down in defeat and leaned close to your ear, whispering the words, "Are..... Are you and Mitsu-sensei a thing?"

"...Eh?" You managed out. A sickly sweet feeling emerged from within you as you felt the heat rushing to your face. You hesitantly looked over to Mitsunari, but you found that he was turned the other way.

D-did he hear that?

You hoped to whatever god that was watching you now that he didn't.

You shook your head, trying to keep calm. "No... We're not, err... Like that.." Was your answer, earning dejected sounds from the children and Mayu herself.

Truth was, your little relationship is being kept a secret for, as Mitsunari calls it, 'safety purposes'. Your conscience is telling you 'They're just kids! It'll be fine to tell them.', but Mitsunari was just there. Who knows what would happen to you if you disobeyed? Well, this is the first time you were questioned on your relationship...

You frantically grabbed a book from Mitsunari's side, holding it in front of the children. "Anyway! How about we continue your lessons?" You ever so lightly nudged his side, making him sigh.

It was late at night, and you two were now back at the castle. You shifted in the bedding when you felt someone join you in the futon. Mitsunari wrapped his arms around you and buried his face in the crook of your neck.

You soothingly ran your fingers through his hair. His face got hotter as you felt him try to bury his face deeper.

"Do you...." He started, his voice laced with embarrassment, "Do you have any idea how awful it was to hear that question..?" Mitsunari questioned, his embrace getting tighter.

You flinched. So he did hear that... "I'm sorry, Mitsunari."

"........Leave it up to their interpretation next time." He mumbled.

Ah, so it wasn't just the question earlier.

"Understood." You answered, smiling to yourself as you slowly fell asleep.

Yes, seeing this softer side of him wasn't bad at all..
