Darien stood outside the door as his parents talked, when he saw them kiss, he frowned. He watched as they both cried together, how his mother ran her fingers through his hair, how his father looked at her. He clenched his jaw, he hasn't seen that look in his father's eyes since his father looked at Seth's mother. Now, that love was for his mother, but he would never be able to show it. He sighed, he looked at them once more before walking back outside.
"Seth, I don't think killing him is the right thing to do." he mumbled.
Seth frowned, "Why?"
"He...he loves my mom and even though my mom claims she doesn't love him, you can still see that she does. Maybe she just refuses to believe it."
"Or, maybe she doesn't love him, but she cares about him." Lilianna voiced.
Darien nodded, "Is killing really going to give me and my mom justice? I mean, she's going to feel the pain of her mate being ripped away from her."
Avery bit her lip, "He tried killing you."
"Yes, but what have we done with rogues that killed countless of innocent lives, that tortured children for fun? We gave them trial and half of the time, they were only thrown in the dungeon for a year or two. My father tried killing two people, that was you and me."
Seth frowned, "You mean, he never killed another person?"
"No, he did threaten my mom, but after she left...I overheard one of his conversations with his buddies. He told him he bluffing, he could never kill her, no matter what they did to each other. Deep down, I think my dad has always loved my mom. He's just....messed up."
"Well, what do you want to do? It's up to you, bud." Seth asked.
Darien sighed, "Don't kill him. Keep him in the dungeon and have a doctor visit him each day. If there's improvement after a few weeks, then...have him on house arrest."
Seth smiled, "Good thinking."
Lilith walked Kaden out of the room, her tears were now dried, and she had control over her emotions again. Even so, her grip on Kaden didn't loosen, it was almost as if she couldn't let him go. As they walked outside, they noticed the whole pack was dismissed, causing the two to look at each other in confusion. Darien took a deep breath before walking up to his parents.
"I decided that killing you won't serve us justice." he started. "Your new punishment is to stay in the dungeons, you will be visited by a doctor each day. She or he will hopefully, help you with whatever is causing you to be...destructive. If we see improvement after a few weeks, you will then be put on house arrest. When you gain your freedom again is up to you. Either you follow the pack laws and become a peaceful packmember again or...you will become a rogue."
Kaden frowned, "Why?"
Darien sighed, "I...killing you, won't make me any better than you. Sure, you threatened me and mom half the time, but we both know you were bluffing. You couldn't kill mom no matter what, you told your friends that. You threatened to kill Avery, how many times? But you barely touched her, your 'torture' for her was placing a pure silver coin on her skin. Your torture for me was making me fight your men until I couldn't fight anymore. And when they tried killing me, you punished them. That doesn't sound deserving of death to me."
"Even though you hate me, you still protected me, you still refused to allow anyone else to hurt me. Before you shot me, I could see you hesitate, you were reluctant. There was something holding you back, but you're hatred for everything had blinded you and pushed you to become what you are today. Whether you realize it or not, at certain times, you had moments where you were a real father to me."
Kaden stared at his son in shocked silence, a drop of guilt hit him as he thought over everything he did to his only child. He swallowed, "Thank you."
Darien smiled a little, "You're welcome, Kaden."
Lilith smiled at her son before pulling him into a hug, "Thank you, I'm so proud of you."
After Kaden was thrown in the dungeon and had his appointments scheduled, Seth decided to go on a date with Lilianna. He wanted to do something special, to celebrate being fully mated. He pursed his lips as he leaned against the cell that Kaden was being held in.
"Why are you still here?" Kaden asked, letting his curiosity get the better of him.
Seth glanced at him, "I'm waiting for the guards to come down here and stand before your cell. It's the rules."
"Right, forgot." Kaden raised an eyebrow when he saw Seth looking up restaurants close by. "Lilianna is your mate right?"
"Yeah."
"If she's anything like Lilith, she'll love a small, simple restaurant. There's one not too far from here, it looks like a small cabin. It's called Cathy's Cabin, they serve everything there. I know Lilith loves chocolate milkshakes, they have a special Nutella one there. Lilianna should love that one too."
Seth looked at him, "You took Lilith on dates?"
Kaden blushed, "A few..."
"Tell me, why did you hate her so much?"
"If anything, I don't think I hated her, I think I just hated life in general. Your mother sort of...crushed my heart."
Seth frowned, "How so? She was always the sweetest woman."
Kaden looked at him with pained eyes, "Not in high school and not when your father wasn't looking."
"What did she do?"
"She...played me, stood me up on dates, made me think she actually had feelings for me. On graduation, she embarrassed me in front of the whole school. Yet, I still became their beta."
Seth frowned, "I didn't know she was like that..."
"She hated me, I had no idea why. I would bring her roses every Valentine's day, I would always be there to support her when she was upset, but she continued bullying me." he let out a bemused laugh. "I shouldn't have wasted my time on her. I had a great woman, but I was a fool and let her go."
"You know, I'm already seeing an improvement."
"Yeah, well, when you're stuck with only your thoughts...you start to see your mistakes." he half smiled.
Seth smiled in return, "You know, I suggest trying really hard to change. I know something that will probably break Lilith's heart, she's going to need her mate."
With that said, Seth walked away as the guards showed up. Kaden frowned as he thought over what he said, he furrowed his eyebrows. After a few minutes, he started to have an idea on what was going to break his girl's heart.
More like, who was going to break it.
