Meanwhile on another point
Daphne and Thoren took their lively 2-year-old daughter, Arina, to Lake Roccaluce on a bright, sunny afternoon. The lake shimmered under the golden sunlight, its surface reflecting the surrounding lush greenery and towering cliffs. Daphne’s heart swelled with nostalgia and love as she gazed at the peaceful waters that had been her home for so many years.
"Arina, look," Daphne said softly, crouching down to point toward the lake. "This is where Mommy used to live."
Arina's bright eyes widened with curiosity as she stared at the vast expanse of water. Her small hand reached out as though she could touch the shimmering surface. "You lived here, Mama?" she asked in her tiny, inquisitive voice.
Thoren chuckled, lifting Arina onto his shoulders so she could get a better view. "That’s right, sweetheart. This lake was very special to your mom. It kept her safe and watched over her until she came back to us."
Daphne smiled at her husband’s words and gently ran her fingers through Arina's golden curls. "It’s more than special—it’s magical. And now, it’s a place where we can make new memories together."
As they walked closer to the shoreline, Arina began to wriggle with excitement. "Can we go in, Mama? Can we play?"
"Of course we can," Daphne replied, laughing softly. She pulled off her sandals and waded into the cool, refreshing water, holding Arina's tiny hand. "But only if Daddy comes too!"
Thoren smirked, already pulling off his boots. "I’m not about to let you two have all the fun without me."
Once they were all in the water, Arina squealed with delight as Thoren lifted her high above his head and then gently dipped her toes into the lake. "Again, Daddy, again!" she cried, her giggles echoing across the water.
Daphne laughed, watching them play. Her heart felt full, seeing her daughter so happy and carefree in a place that had once been her sanctuary. She swam closer, splashing both of them playfully.
"Careful, you’re going to start a splash war," Thoren teased, grinning mischievously as he sent a wave of water her way.
Arina clapped her hands and joined in, splashing her tiny hands at both her parents. "Splash, splash!" she cheered, her laughter lighting up the afternoon.
After playing in the water, they made their way to a nearby grassy patch under a tall, shady tree. Daphne spread out a blanket, and Thoren unpacked the small picnic they had brought. Arina nibbled on her favorite snacks while Daphne pointed out the different fish and birds that frequented the lake.
"Do you see those flowers on the water, Arina?" Daphne asked, pointing to the delicate water lilies floating nearby. "Those are called lilies, and they’ve been here for as long as I can remember. They’re just as beautiful as they were back then."
Arina tilted her head, studying the flowers carefully. "Pretty, like Mama," she said, her voice sweet and sincere.
Thoren leaned back on his hands, smiling as he looked between Daphne and Arina. "She’s right, you know," he said warmly.
As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, painting the horizon in hues of orange and pink, Daphne and Thoren held Arina between them as they stood at the water’s edge. The little girl leaned her head against Daphne’s shoulder, her energy finally waning.
"This place really is magical," Thoren said quietly, wrapping an arm around Daphne. "Not just because of your past here, but because of what it means for our family now."
Daphne nodded, her eyes glistening as she gazed at the lake. "It’s a place of beginnings. And now, it’s where we start our own memories with Arina."
