I wished Madame Hildago the best for Elijah and made my way back out into the backyard. The alluring music pulled me closer to the crowd, and I began searching for Maddie. Her bright pink dress was completely camouflaged within the crowd of bright colors. I seemed to be lost in a crowded wonderland and my head became full of dizziness. In a quick flash, I found myself falling backwards, and my arms swing forward, desperately reaching for something to grab. Something gripped my wrist, and I grabbed a hold of it. I gazed at my savior and a pair of bright green eyes peered down at me. She wore a nice dark purple dress that hung off her shoulder and she carried a closed white fan in her other hand. She helped me stand tall, and I smiled.
"Why thank you." I thanked her and fixed my gloves that were slipping off of my arm.
"I'm so glad I caught you in time." She replied with a bold and formal tone in her voice. Her light red hair, that was wrapped in a purple hair cover, shined as the lights beamed down on her, her lips were pink from lipstick, her eyelashes were long and black, and her hands were covered with her dress's sleeves. A necklace with blue diamonds covered her chest in different patterns, and her blue earrings sparkled. She flashed her fan open and covered her nose and mouth. She raised an eyebrow at me and giggled. "You're quite a beauty to be falling down so clumsily."
"Oh," I replied, "I suppose you are right."
Her eyes feasted upon me, and I felt my body go stiff as a board. "May I ask your name?" I asked. She narrowed her eyes at me and held her fan tightly with one hand. Why was she so intimidating?
"Lady Lily Crawford, daughter of Madame Jennifer Crawford, the woman sitting by he crowd of handsome men." She aimed her index finger at a woman with orange hair wearing a short glittering blue dress with a black fur coat and black knee high boots. Her style was truly incredible, although she wears the dress a little too inappropriately. "Your mother is gorgeous." I replied with a smile. "Now if you'll excuse me."
"Hold on a moment!" She exclaimed and grabbed my wrist. "Are you jealous of my mother?"
I clenched my fist and tried pulling her grip loose from me. I frowned in annoyance at her behavior. "Why would I be jealous?" I asked and finally managed to have my arm back. "I have no need of attention from anyone."
"Are you naming my mother self conceited?" The young woman narrowed her eyes at me once again, and I sighed heavily. "Lady Lily, I am so sorry you feel that way, but I must be hurrying." I turned my back to her and continued my search for Maddie."Madame Jae?" A heard a familiar voice call out my name and turned to see him head my way. "Did you find out anything, Sebastian?" I asked. Sebastian glanced at the corner of his eye and frowned. He quickly took my hand and held me close as the orchestra began playing a gentle note. "My apologies for my sudden gesture," he whispered, "but it appears you have a close eye on you."
He swiftly turned me, covering our conversation into a dance. I looked over his shoulder and saw Lady Lily and Madame Jennifer Crawford eyeing us. How rude to stare at someone like that! I hid my lips closer to Sebastian's shoulder and whispered. "I've met the younger one in purple, and I believe the other is her mother." I informed him of my research, and he smiled. "Yes," He spun me in a circle and pulled me around gently with his steps, "The woman seems to have remarried seven times, only having one daughter that is Lady Lilian, with her second betrothed. The last man she married was anonymously killed last year with no trace of evidence."
"Sounds interesting." I replied. "Is that all?"
"Yes, Jae."
Sebastian's hair swayed blissfully allowing me to catch a better view
of his face. He was so handsome compared to the other men I've met, but I shouldn't give compliments to a demon, should I?
His hair brushed against my cheek as his leaned forward, and his voice reached my ear. "They seem curious about you." He whispered, his voice making me flinch. "Shall I fill their curiosity?" His hand squeezed my waist tightly, and I saw his eyes shimmer their brilliant red color. I shook my head in denial. "No, we shouldn't dawdle about with them. I believe it's time to head back to the manor."
As the music slowed signaling its near end, I pulled Sebastian from the area, hiding from wandering eyes. Then something hit me as I stopped in my tracks. "Where is Maddie?" I asked and Sebastian paused as well. He sighed heavily and bowed. "Shall I find her?" He asked.
"Yes, but don't let anyone notice. There's too much going on as it is." I shooed Sebastian off and waited beside the long highly decorated dining table, that was swarmed with sweets and drinks. My eye twitched in annoyance. It was so painful to wait for better or for worse. Where had Maddie run off to and why hasn't she tried to search for me? I hung my head in boredom, and my stomach felt as if it was becoming weak as I waited.
"Why, hello there." A female voice greeted, and I raised my head finding Madame Crawford, standing beside me with a large grin on her face. I straightened up and revolved toward her, returning a warm smile. "Good evening, Madame Crawford." She shook her head and waved her left hand in refusal. "No, please." She pleaded and stepped closer to me, allowing her aroma of peppermint surround me. "Everyone addresses me by the name Jennifer, so I pray you do the same." She placed her right hand on her hip and flipped her orange hair over her shoulder. Up close, her eyes were a bright blue color, and I focused on them. I had never met anyone with blue eyes as bright as hers. She suddenly giggled and winked at me. "I saw your darling dance partner." Jennifer noted and gave me an evil smirk. This didn't feel right to me, and my body tensed up as she stared at me. "Yes, my butler is very talented, isn't he?""Butler?" She noted. "Why on Earth is a butler attending this party? Shouldn't he be working?"
"He is. I believe my butler is more than just some working tool. He is my bodyguard, teacher, personal assistant and many more all in one. "
"Oh really?" She asked and crinkled her nose in irritation. Jennifer's eyes became dark and cloudy it seemed setting off a different atmosphere. Her appearance changed in just the blink of an eye, and I was soon gazing at an evil presence of what should be a woman.
"Madame Jae." Sebastian called and he appeared beside me with Maddie next to him. "Maddie," I called and embraced my sister, "where did you run off to?"
Maddie smiled happily and shrugged her shoulders. "I guess," she began "I was swarmed amongst the crowd. So sorry." I shook my head and gave her a big smile.
"It's all right."
"Are you ready to leave, Madame?" Sebastian asked. I nodded and wrapped my arm with his and Maddie sauntered down the pathway. I turned to Jennifer who was in deep thought while eyeing me. "Goodbye, Madame Crawford." I said my goodbye and she waved, a fake smile plastered on her face.
Sebastian eyed me as I looked up at him, his eyes glistening. "Sebastian," I whispered,"We have a new enemy."
