"Madame, time to wake up." It was another day the same morning. Sebastian would wake me up, help me get dressed and announce my plans for the day. "Good morning, Sebastian." I said as I stretched my arms above my head. The room was lit up from the sunlight that seeped through the glass window. I brushed my teeth and cleaned my face in the restroom, and when I came out, the bed was completely clean and straight. I unbuttoned my gown and Sebastian set me into a black corset. "What are my plans today?" I asked as he dressed me into a gold dress. The cold zipper slid up my back and locked into place. "Nothing this morning, the afternoon is free and you have a meeting with a new makeup company this evening. Hopefully the acquaintance company will rise up our sales with the attachment of makeup supplies in our stores." Sebastian zipped up my gold boots and stood to his feet. "Very well. I shall be off to-"
My bedroom door slammed open and Maddie came in. "Jallerie!" She called. I jumped from the bed in surprise and walked over to Maddie. "Whatever is the matter?" I asked. Maddie grabbed my hand and pulled me outside. "Come along! You too, Sebastian." Maddie ordered and I sighed. We hurried down the hallway into the main hall, and the policemen were there. I released myself from Maddie's grip and placed my hands on my hips. A young policeman came up to us and tipped his hat.
"Morning Madame. I am Mr.Randolph. A letter from our sheriff." He handed me an envelope and I looked at the molten seal. It was from the sheriff. Why did he need any service from us? Maddie walked over to the other policemen and began ordering everyone around.
"Oi! Get your bloody behinds off the furniture! You can't just barge in here and think you can do whatever you like!"
I opened the envelope and took out the letter. The letter was written in fine print, as if he wrote it on a typewriter. I read the letter aloud:
"'Dear Madame Jallerie,
There has been a murder in an alley behind the bread bakery. There has been no intense blood shed, but there was a clear test tube filled with an unknown substance. There was only one cut in the heart and the substance was on the victims lips and injected in the neck. We have no idea what the purpose of this was. We could really use your assistance.
Sheriff.'"
I frowned at this and looked up at Mr.Randolph, who was staring nervously at me. "No need to be nervous." I assured him and handed the letter to Sebastian. "I just don't know why he needs me." I said and crossed my arms over my chest. "He said no one would be a better help. The sheriff trusts you and your butler, but I can't give a reason why." Mr.Randolph looked at me with pleading eyes. "Very well. I could use a job to do, but I'm not going to stay, for I have a meeting in this evening. We best get going." I said and the policemen left the manor with Sebastian and I tagging along.
A man lied dead on the alley grounds and wasn't covered in much blood. The only thing that could be seen were two marks on his neck with a purple liquid leaking out of them. I got on my knees and searched his coat.
"What are you doing?" Mr.Randolph asked and I frowned at him.
"If we find something in his coat that could probably be a link to another mysterious murder, we should keep it."
I searched his right pocket. I felt something hard against my finger tips and grabbed a hold of it. I pulled out a black ring and eyed its structure. The black ring was framed in silver wire, and the black gem was cracked. "Here." I placed the ring into a plastic bag and continued to search. I reached into his right pocket and pulled out another tube of the same liquid that is oozing from his neck. I stood up with the tube pressed between my fingers. A small cork was lodged into it to support it from spilling out. "Poison, or some sort of magic was used behind this." I said and placed the tube in the plastic bag with the ring. Sebastian handed the bag to Mr.Randolph. "Alright, so do you have any ideas where he might've gotten these items from?" He asked. I flipped my hair over my shoulder and fixed my dress from kneeling on the ground. "No clue, but I'll check around town when I have the time, come on Sebastian." I ordered, and we left the alley. As we came onto the streets, a woman's scream was heard throughout the town. "Madame Jae. Over there!" Sebastian picked me up and leapt to another alley alongside the streets.
A woman was lying on the ground trembling in pain. "Help! Please..it hurts!" She cried. I kneeled beside her and raised her head.
"It hurts!" She cried.
"I know, just hold on." I said and looked at her for any marks. There were two marks on her neck, just like the man from the first murder scene. "What happened?" I asked and traced a finger on the marks. "He...injected the..and...I just wanted...my...daughter....back." It was as if she was in so much pain that she couldn't talk directly to me. "My daughter...don't take..her...save..her...poi..son.." The woman's eyes closed tightly and she held heart as tears fell from her face. "Hold on." I said, but the woman's trembling calmed. Her tears fell to my lap, and her body was still and cold as ice. "God, it's too late." I said and carefully sat her head on the ground. "Sebastian what time is it?" I asked. "High Noon." He replied. I thought for a moment. The woman was not pierced into the heart as the man was. Maybe the man tried to fight back to the murderer and faced dire consequences. Then a purple liquid began to trickle down her neck, seeping her dress collar. "The same injection that was pierced into the man as well." I said and began to search her. She didn't have anything on her at all. I looked at her as she lied dead on the ground. Then something shined into my eye. It was a ring.
A black ring, the same as the one we found on the man. She was wearing it.
I took it off and gave it to Sebastian. "I think we found at least one link between the victims." Sebastian eyed the ring, turning it side to side. "This too is cracked in the gem." He said. So the two rings were just alike, but the woman had no tube of purple liquid on her unlike the man we found. The purple elixir was injected twice into both of them, but not with a needle. The two marks were too big to be a needle's piercing. "Let's go. I still have a meet with the makeup company." I said. "You should be able to take care of the rest Mr.Randolph." Sebastian said and dropped the ring into Mr.Randolph's hand with a bright smile on his face. Why is he so happy?"
I entered the manor to find Maddie chatting with a man in the main hall. Rose was standing by pouring them tea. The man had a nice black shirt on with nice white pants and black shoes. "Oh really?" Maddie turned to me and smiled. "Oh, welcome back Jae!" She squealed and hugged me. "Uhh. Hello again." I said pushing her gently off me. The man stood up and walked over to me. "Hello, Madame Jallerie." He said and bowed deeply before me. His brown hair swayed softly as he did, and I nodded my head in reply. "And you are?" I asked, hands on my hips. He looked at me and smiled. "I am Roger Hildalgo. The makeup company's leader." I froze.
The makeup company's leader was.....a man?
