You take a deep breath and open your eyes.
Tonight was the night.
The night you've been waiting for, that you've been anxious about.
You stare and your reflection stares right back at you, titling your head slightly to the side, almost questioning the woman you're seeing.
For a moment you can't even recognize yourself, though you couldn't really put a finger on what it was different.
Was it just your outer appearance or who you were as a person, as a woman?
What was different?
Your eyes travel your face, your makeup is light but the bloody red lipstick shade on your lips draws out your light brown eyes, making them brighter than they usually are.
Your natural curly hair is put at an advantage as it's half pulled up into a tight mid ponytail, the curly ends caressing your shoulders and your back.
You seem almost prepared for what's to come, confident even but your hands are shaking, your insides are swirling and yet you're not fully dressed.
Your fingers tug at the silk silver robe shielding your body and you force your eyes from yourself to glance at your dress hidden in the black garment bag against the side of the mirror.
The music playing below and the chatter from the guests makes you a little uneasy, all those people, they belonged to this world and you knew tonight, your introduction into society, was going to be a sort of test to see if you belonged.
