Walking to Proffessor X's office, I'm scared, yet anxious. The mission could be the worse one yet. I relax a little as I take a seat in his office, and he greets me with a warm smile.
"Ashlynn, we have a mission for you."
"Yeah?" I ask.
"Magneto has moved to Paranorma City. We need you to find him and Mystique. Logan will go with you but in different parts of the area. He is to find Sabretooth." The Proffessor said. I nod, taking in everything.
"Okay."
"You are to also fight and defend The Samurai Rangers. Their purpose is to fight the Nighlok." The Proffessor adds.
"Anything else I should be aware of?"
"For the first week or so, Wolverine and you will be incognito in a hotel. Don't fight any battles. Don't let the Rangers see you, and if they do, tell them you need to talk to Ji, their mentor."
"Okay."
"Oh, and Ashlynn?" I stop on my way to the door.
"Don't be so quick to make an alliance." I nod, and walk out.
Missions are taken very seriously at the Charles Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters. It's a matter of life and death; you need to succeed in the Danger Room first, and then you get a new file. You have to pretend to be a different person for about a year. Then, you may go on a mission.
We never need or have any time to pack. We all have emergency backpacks filled with clothes and money, and worse comes to worse, our weapons and communication devices. Logan, one of my teachers and supposed partner on this mission, comes up to me.
"You received the news, Ash?" He says in his usual gruff voice. I nod.
"Hardest mission yet. No alliances until a month after. How can I do that?" I ask.
"Be a mute. Act like a normal person when the Nighlok comes: Run as fast as you can. I got you back if anyone in Magneto's crew thinks about laying a finger on you, Ashes." Logan says gruffly. "Act like a normal person always, and don't even think about Phoenix Flame."
I nod. "We leave tommorow."
"Well today's the last day to be a normal mutant before all hell breaks loose. We have to take a normal jet- Not the black bird. Summers is driving us to the airport. Stay on your toes, Diaz. Training room session at 5:00 AM tommorow. I'd expect you not to be late." Logan nods a goodbye and heads off in the direction of the Danger Room, and as I'm walking back to my room, I can hear the metal coming out from between his fingers.
I'm roommates with Kitty and Jean Grey. Kitty can phase through anything and Jean is a telepath and is telekinetic. My powers have to do with morphing into animals and fire.
When I left home, my parents didn't give a shit about it. They were fine with leading normal lives and pretending they had no daughter, because the one they did have was a total uncontrollable freak that should be in containment for the New York Mutant Police, and it was only for the safety of their oh-so-precious place in the neighbourhood hierarchy. They didn't care about when I left... Hell, they didn't even care that I was leaving with a total, bald headed, telepathic stranger in a wheelchair. They just wanted me gone... Off their radar forever. I don't think they even give a shit about if I'm still alive or not.
Jean and Kitty are talking in the room when I get there.
"Hey... Like, what happened?" Kitty asks.
"I have a mission... That will last a year, or something. I need to start packing my emergency suitcase."
"Oh... Like, what did the Prof say? Is it because like, he wants you to like, broaden your horizons?" Kitty asks.
"I'm not supposed to say anything else." I lie, because Kitty's over-usage of the word "Like" was really starting to annoy me.
Jean gives me a stern look, and I shrug. It's better for them to know some of the questions rather than the answers.

After a 3 shitty meal plane ride, I was ready for my feet to touch the ground. Logan slept most of the way... So did I. Most people probably assumed we were a father and daughter moving.
Paranorma looked exactly like San Diego, California. Everything was spread out. You couldn't exactly walk everywhere like New York.
We checked into the five-star Mariott Hotel. We had separate beds(because Logan is really dangerous when he's drunk and fast asleep... He's ruined 6 beds already) which I was very grateful for. We unpacked then decided to go out and act like regular tourists: normal.
So we walked alongside each other on the sidewalk of Paranorma, my head on Logan's shoulder.
"You're turning too cuddly and cute for a teenager, ash. Toughen up a bit."
"Alright, dad." I chuckle.
After staying in the park for a while (I drew while he was practicing hand to hand combat) we headed to the Bakery. It was only when the door opened when we both realised that there was an attack going on. People were running for their lives and screaming... Most didn't make it.
We turned and saw the monster that was...
"Nighlok." Logan growled, and suddenly, he wasn't the teacher I knew. He had become Wolverine.
"Dad... We can't do anything about this, so leave the matter alone." He shook his head.
"NO. Ash, this is a very serious matter."
"Dad. It's much ado about nothing, so leave it alone. I'm sure the power rangers know what they're dealing with." I say.
He sighed, then ordered some coffee while I got a Danish.
We sat and stared out the window for a few minutes. Multicoloured costumed people ran into view. "The power rangers samurai." I whispered. "My mission."
Logan stared at me, his face unreadable. "Do you need to do it now?" He asked gruffly, but quietly.
"No. Xavier told me to wait. For two weeks or so." I whispered back.
"Hmm."
The battle was over shortly, and we headed out. There wasn't very much damage except for a few fallen trees.
"Clean." Logan commented.
"Very." I nodded.
"Well, we just gotta wait until Magneto gets involved."
"Which won't be for long." I said quietly. "Hopefully."
"That's the one thing you can never depend on... Hope." Logan said, with a very serious expression. I ran a finger in the air.
"Well, someone's gotta save the world. It better not be the Avengers again, but someone has to do it... Better late than never." I shrugged.
Logan chuckled and threw his head back. I took it as a good sign.
