At the same time your brain managed to shut down and your nerves relaxed, you shut your eyes. And at that moment your eyes closed, they flashed open.
But you weren't in your bed.
You weren't even on Earth.
There was a vast nothingness in front of you. Purple and burgundy colored emptiness. You turned around and around, desperate to see anyone.
There was silence, and it was as defeaning as it could be. Your ears were ringing with the lack of sound.
You were uneasy as you shouted, "Dad?"
Nothing.
"Dad," you continued, walking now. Your voice was strained. "Are you here? H-"
"___."
Sharp and clear, a whisper of your name sliced through your skin. You gasped, muscles tightening. Whipping around, your hair stuck to your face.
"Dad?"
That voice pierced through you. You knew it. "You hear me. You know who I am."
"I do," you said.
"Good."
"Where are you?" you asked. And admittedly, you were terrified.
"I am in your head," was he said.
And then the silence was back as quickly as it had vanished, and it sounded like a dozen screams that split your skull.
You jerked out of sleep, gasping loudly. A movement at your side made you sit up straight, and the beginning of a scream ripped through your throat-
"Hey, whoa - it's just me." The familiar voice washed the ice cold fear away.
"Oh," you said, deflating. "You scared the crap out of me, Rocket."
He sat down on the edge of your matress. "You were making a lot of noise before I came over here to wake you up, so I doubt I was the cause of all of this."
You swallowed hard.
"Bad dream, huh?" When you didn't answer, he exhaled softly. "Yeah, I get 'em, too. When I manage to sleep."
"I didn't mean to wake you up," you said softly.
"Oh, no, you didn't. Haven't exactly been to sleep yet." He looked down at the floor. "I was gonna check the damage done on my ship, actually, if you wanna follow. I'd be okay with that."
You pulled your blanket off of you. "You sure?"
"Sure," he said.
"Thank you. Just let me get some shoes on."
"Sure," he said again.
You hurriedly grabbed your shoes and shoved your feet in them. Then you grabbed your jacket and put it on. Your hands were shaking, but you were trying to not make it obvious, so you didn't even attempt to zip it up.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Uh-huh." You avoided looking at him.
You walked out of the room with Rocket, keeping quiet as you did. Thor was snoring from the air mattress next to yours; he hadn't woken up during your nightmare. You were glad he was sleeping well now - he hadn't been for so long.
Rocket lead the way to the ship. Stepping on the ramp that opened into the back of it, you glanced around. The ship was interesting; it was unlike anything you had seen, with a few rusted walls, a few sleek, silver walls, and shelves of random objects.
