(Major Infinity War spoilers ahead!!!)
Everything around them seemed to calm, to slow. It gave them a second of hope that maybe, just maybe, it was finally over, that victory had been one, but everyone on Titian knew Thanos wasn't finished. They glanced around at each other, with the glimmer of hope at the possibility that they had won. Until the silence around them was broken.
"Something happening..." Mantis says, her voice quivering.
Everyone turned their attention to her, but seconds before their eyes could even focus, she was gone, turning to dust and blowing away in the wind. Rachael inhaled sharply, she didn't really like Mantis even though they had only had a few interaction that mostly consisted of Peter asking her not to put eggs in him, but she knew that she didn't deserve this that none of them did. The young teen began to feel a strange tingle in her finger tips, but ignored it.
Peter Quill had his attention turned to Drax who was starting to disappear as well.
"Quill?" Drax croaked out before he was lost in the wind.
Quill turned his attention to the others, but focused his gaze on Tony who was the first to speak up. "Steady Quill." Tony says.
"Oh man." Quill whispers before vanishing just as the others had.
"Tony, there was no other way..." Stephen speaks, before he too began to turn to dust in front of their eyes. Everyone had turned their attention to him.
Rachael looked down at her hands, watching them start to disappear. It was a terrible burning sensation she just wanted to stop already, she could almost feel her atoms being ripped apart one by one. "Daddy...what's happening?"
Tony spun on his heel to look at her, putting his hand out almost to reach for her, but stopping himself in fear of making things worse. "I don't know, sweetheart, but you know damn well we'll figure it out."
"I-I don't want to die..." Rachael cries, looking up at Peter who was a standing a few feet behind Tony. Pete looked at her making direct eye contact, he watched her terrified. He observed her shaking form, she was so scared anyone could see that. There was so much left for them to do. They were supposed to go to prom, have rooftop sex, go to college, make there mark on the world. They both knew that none of that would ever happened now. This was it. She took a shaky step forward towards Peter, but stopped suddenly when she almost collapsed to the ground. He wasn't feeling to great at this point either. Pete reached his arms out towards her, to grab her and hold her tightly, but she was almost completely gone at this point, they both knew she'd only last a few more seconds. "I love you-"
She uttered those three powerful words before disappearing in front of his eyes, he watched her blow away into the distance. He watched as he let another one of his loved ones go, they really should have stayed on the bus. This was his fault she might have been okay if they hadn't came here. Peter didn't know what was going on, but he felt responsible for it. The poor kid couldn't have been more wrong. His spider-sense was going off like crazy and had been for a few minutes now. This is it. This is the end he know that. He can feel it. "Mister Stark..." Peter mutters out in pain.
Oh God no...was all Tony could think as he turned around to look at the kid. "I don't feel so good..." Peter says inhaling sharply.
"You're alright." Tony says softly, but they both knew he was lying.
"I don't- I don't know what's happening." Peter says starting to cry, taking a few shaky steps towards Tony before his legs gave up on him. Tony caught him with ease holding him close to his chest, as Peter clung onto him for dear life. "I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go. Mister Stark, please. I don't wanna go. I don't wanna go."
Peter couldn't support any of his weight anymore and they both crashed to the ground with Tony still holding onto him. Believing that if he held on just a few minutes longer, maybe Peter would be alright. "I'm sorry..." Peter sobs quietly, he wasn't ready to die yet. He has so much left to do, he always new he'd never live past thirty, but he at least hoped he'd get to twenty. Or at least be able to get legally married. His head fell to the side slightly, but kept his gaze on Tony before, he too turned to dust. There one second and then gone the next, the wind blowing him away, as if he'd never existed. The dust like ash blew into Tony's hand, which he clenched tightly. This was all his fault.
He fell forward a bit from the loss of mass underneath him, before his sat up putting his head in his hands. Tony Stark was crying. Not that he hadn't cried before, no but, this was different. He was crying, he was sobbing, he was mourning. Just that day he had been talking to Pepper about having a baby and now both of his real babies were dead. Sure Peter wasn't his blood and sure Rachael had stopped associating herself with him years ago, but they were his kids nonetheless and he just let them die. He did nothing to stop it, he couldn't do anything to stop it. They were dead. Dead at just seventeen years old. They hadn't even live life yet. They didn't even know what life was and now they never would. They would never get any older because of him. They may never be together again because of him. Or maybe they are, maybe they are finally happy. Maybe, just maybe everyone who has died will take care of them, teach them what they are missing, teach them about what they'll never have. They'll never have a life, or kids, they won't graduate, they won't get married. They won't find their own happiness. They'll be trapped in eternal youth, but who knows maybe that a blessing, maybe that bliss. But at least, they were together. God knows what hell would be unleashed if they weren't. Tony had killed his children and his friends, his family, this was his legacy, this was what had been predicted all those years ago. This was his fault and now it's his job to fix it.
