Thomas had a lot of plans for today, so many plans it was exhausting. He had a white box in his pocket with a ring that held a blue diamond in its center, the silver band was decorated in swirly designs. For the past fifteen months he's been courting the ex-wife of the man he despised, she was probably the best thing to happen to him.

Elizabeth Schuyler, the name alone made him smile softly, he loved her. She was married to Alexander Hamilton for sixteen years, however, when news broke of Alexander's affair she filed for divorce and a year later she and Thomas began courting, this fact pissed Alexander off to no end and made Thomas more than pleased.

Eliza had changed his life, sure she had a few children which he had become the step-father too, but in the same respect, Eliza had become like a step-mother to Thomas's children. Thomas was married before too but never divorced and he was sure a part of him would love his wife his entire life, Martha Jefferson, six years ago she had succumbed to an unknown illness. However, he was allowed to find love again and though a part of his heart stayed with her in her grave he still gave Eliza a piece too.

Currently, Thomas was finishing up some work before he'd leave to spend the day with Eliza as they had planned. He had a huge speech planned and would propose right as the sun was going down, he could just imagine her eyes sparkling with her natural beauty and curiosity.

Just as he signed the last tax order the door flew open. He looked up, "Ah, Hamilton." He stood up and pulled his jacket on, "I was just about to leave to propose to your ex-wife." He smirked and saw Alexander's eyes flare up.

"I came here to tell you that you have to cut it off with her," Alex said bluntly, "You can't have her. I'm going to win her back." He said angrily, his eyes narrowing a little though he had to look up to reach Thomas's eyes.

Thomas laughed, "Win her back? Do you know what she says about you?" He asked and walked around his desk, "She calls you a cheating bastard who turns down family vacations specifically because he has some mistress on the side who he values more than the woman he married and the children he has created. She hates you, Alexander. You couldn't even win a french fry off of her." He patted the man's shoulder before leaving, ignoring the sound of his screaming.

He headed to the park, putting his hands in his pocket and feeling the box in there. He noticed Eliza sitting on a bench and hurried over, she looked up and grinned, "Hi Thomas. How was work?" She asked that question every time she saw him and it made him smile.

"It's been the best day," He replied honestly. Really what made the day so good was being able to insult Alexander without either Washington stopping him or Alex responding. Guess it's too hard to fight when everything you're told is true, "I think I enjoyed work for the first time in a long time."

"That's good," Eliza smiled, silently slipping her hand into Thomas's. He looked at her and she giggled, "You remember the poems book Philip's been working hard on? He published it yesterday. Angelica's thinking about accepting a marriage proposal! How crazy is that? Little Alex just started tutoring and he's doing well, John destroyed our garden yesterday with William's help. They'll little monsters. Oh! And Little Eliza tried to eat staples, it was stressful."

Thomas chuckled and kissed her cheek, "Hey Liza? I have something to ask you." He told her, sure the sun was still up, but how could he not ask her now? It seemed like the perfect moment. Eliza nodded him on, still smiling her usual smile.

Thomas got up before sliding onto one knee and taking the white box out. Eliza gasped and watched as he opened it up, "Th-Thomas!" To say she was shocked was a huge understatement, he was proposing to her!

"Shhh..." Thomas reached out and took one of her hands while the other held the box. Eliza's eyes filled with tears and she put her free hand over her mouth. Thomas opened then closed his mouth a few times until he chuckled, "I-I had a four-page speech memorized for this moment and I...I forgot it." He said honestly, "I..I love you, Eliza. I love your children...I want you in my life forever..please will you marry me?"

She nodded and started crying, letting him put the ring on her finger before he took a second ring out and put it on his own. He sat next to her and they gazed at each other until Thomas cupped her face and kissed her softly, tilting his head as she put her hands over his lightly. They pulled away only for a moment so Eliza could say a small, "I love you t-too."

Thomas connected their lips again and they kissed gently, softly, lovingly until a man cleared his voice and they looked up only to find Alexander. Thomas didn't give him a moment to say anything though, no man was going to ruin his proposal, "Sorry Secretary Hamilton but my fiancé and I have matters to attend to." He scooped Eliza up and walked briskly out of the part as she began giggling, "Seriously is he a stalker or something?"

Eliza shrugged, "I don't know but...I don't care." Thomas looked at her in surprise and she only smiled again, "He's not news anymore. I want to talk about us, about me and you, not my ex-husband who only ever missed me and wanted to be with me when I wasn't there for him once. Today is about me and you, Thomas Jefferson."

He smiled back and kissed her forehead, setting her down on her feet again, "I agree. Today is about thinking of when I will make you Elizabeth Schuyler Jefferson." Eliza blushed and they kissed again, both of them putting a finger or two over the other's ring to confirm it was there and there had been a proposal.

"We-We should tell the children," She mumbled and he agreed, taking her hand and walking to her estate first to gather her children. They would, after all, move into Monticello soon.
