Philip has lived with his two parents his entire life and he never once saw them with anything but a smile on their face, well, sometimes his father would look frustrated but his mother would always make him a hot drink, massage his shoulders, and talked to him until he stopped being so upset. She always stayed with him until he began to smile again, it was something Philip admired deeply.

However, Philip wanted to know if they ever cried. It's not like he wanted his parents to cry, he absolutely never wanted to see them cry, but he was sort of curious. So he went up to them and asked, "Have you ever cried?" He asked.

Both his parents looked confused before his mother spoke, "What do you mean? Why'd you ask that now?" She looked at him gently and gave her husband a look which he raised his eyebrows. They could always talk in just looks and Philip did want a relationship like that, it seemed perfect.

"Well I just..." He shrugged and shuffled a little bit, "I wanted to know because...you look like you never cry and you're always happy so..." He shrugged again with no idea how to explain why he was asking this question.

His father hummed before he spoke, "Well, we've both cried throughout our lives obviously but since we married it hasn't been often." He looked back at his wife who smiled and so he looked back, "But there's once, one time when you were already born."

Philip sat up further and his father soon passed the story off for his mother to explain, "Well it was one of those days when nothing was happening," She smiled one of her gentle smiles, "It was just a really boring time and Thomas was on the computer and I was trying to help you start walking. You were about a year old so I suspected you were going to start walking soon. Then Thomas turned around from some article he'd pulled up about some way to figure out how to see what a baby or person will value in life. It was really weird actually." She laughed a little, "But we did it anyway."

Philip turned his head to look at his father when he continued the story since his mother couldn't remember the specifics, "We put a pen, a dollar, and a toy in front of you because what you choose represents what you'll value most in your life. The pen represented intelligence, the money was obviously money, and the toy was fun. We didn't really put that much weight on it because we didn't really think much of it, to be honest, we were just bored and wanted to see what you'd choose out of curiosity."

His mother then took over again after his father had explained the specifics of what they had done, Philip was still confused as to what this had to do with them crying, "You just sat there." She giggled a little bit, "You kept looking at the things in front of you but we waited patiently, we just thought you just needed some time and were going to give it to you." She paused for a moment before continuing, "You began to crawl forward and we got more interested, leaning forward slightly too just to watch what you'd do but you soon just pushed everything aside and sped up to get into our arms. It was then we realized we had been an option the entire time and I noticed Thomas crying over it because you chose us over everything else in life so I followed and we just started crying there."

Philip blinked before he looked away in embarrassment, "R-Really?" He asked and waited for their confirmation before he shakily got up and hugged his parents before he left their room to think about what he had been told.

Eliza turned to Thomas when their son was gone and smiled gently, "I'm so glad we have such a lovely son." She admitted quietly, "I mean we didn't think much of that stupid thing but he still chose us so..."

Thomas nodded, "I know, I agree like I always do." Eliza giggled and he kissed her softly to make her stop. Eliza's hands rested on his shoulders and Thomas tilted his head to the side to deepen the kiss.

Eliza pulled back and giggles again, "Your beard tickles me." She told him before screaming as he tickled her, "Stop!"

"Is it tickling you now?" Thomas asked with a chuckle, "Tickle tickle, Liza!" He laughed again before he stopped, "I love you." He pulled her into his lap and she rested against him.

"You're lucky I love you," She told him and pinched him when he went to tickle her again, "Don't even. I will destroy you." She ended it with a giggle as Thomas rolled his eyes before pecking her cheek.

"Let's go get some instant ramen and chips and then watch some stupid fucking romcom, okay?" Thomas set her on her feet and popped up, heading to the kitchen while Eliza crossed her arms and shook her head with a smile before following him.

"But add garlic to the ramen," She didn't use to like garlic but when she was pregnant with Philip she craved it and now she loved it more than she'd admit since she sort of began to add garlic to everything.

"Garlic!" Thomas threw his hands up in fake mockery, "Of course!" He laughed and pulled the garlic powder out of the cabinet, "Got it." He told her and set it on the counter, "But no garlic in mine because that's weird but I'll just cook them separately just for you." He blew his tongue at her and she threw a plastic spatula at him lightly making him laugh, "I have been attacked! I have been abused! Call 911!"

"Oh please," Eliza rolled her eyes with another giggle and threw the pantry door open before pouting, "There's no ramen or chips in here." She reported.

"Emergency store trip!" Thomas immediately ordered and grabbed Eliza's wrist, "And you have to sit in the cart!"

Eliza furrowed her eyebrows slightly, "What about Philip? We can't just leave him here, he's like sixteen."

"GRAB HIM TOO!"
