Picking Up the Pieces (Shattered Part 2)- Tony Stark X Reader

A/N: Again, I'm putting a warning for angst and mentions of a miscarriage.

Two weeks. That's how long she had been gone for. Tony had been frantically searching for his missing wife two weeks. The others all blamed Tony for her leaving. He blamed himself too. Tony had to find her. He didn't care if she slapped him, screamed at him, called him every name in the book, just as long as he saw her again. When he located the car she drove off in abandoned on the side of the road, he feared for the worst but he did not give up. A few days after that he got a tip that a woman matching his wife's description checking into some dingy motel and he went there, his chest filled with hope. Tony could only pray that she was still alive.

You had no idea how you ended up here. The last thing you remembered was Tony snapping at you. You just stayed curled up in a ball on the bed, the only thing you could hear was the steady beating of your heart. You just wanted to give up but your body wouldn't allow you to. You didn't even flinch when the door to your room suddenly swung open.

"Y/N?" The sound of your husband's voice caused you to raise your head.

"To...ny?" Your voice was hoarse from not being used. It hurt him to see you in this state; especially since he was the cause of it. Shutting the door behind him, Tony went over to the bed and sat down next to you. You blinked slowly, your brain trying to register if this was really happening.

"You're... here?"

"Yeah. I'm here."

"You hurt me..."

"I know and I can't apologise enough. I'm a cruel, sadistic moron that wreaks everything he touches. I've taken someone so beautiful and pure and I've completely destroyed her. I'm sorry." Tears were streaming down his face. You felt... something. For the first time since you first arrived, you moved and reached for him. Tony lay down and wrapped his arms around you. That was it. That was all you needed. You broke down crying and clutched at Tony's shirt. All your emotions that you had bottled up came all flooding out. Fear, anger but mostly sadness. Tony held you until as you cried.

"Do you... really... blame me... for my... m-miscarriage?" you sobbed.

"No, sweetheart."

"Then why did you... say that?"

"Because... I was angry. Not at you but at the world for playing this sick joke on us. I wanted that baby just as much as you but after..." Tony paused to carefully consider his words.

"After we found out it was gone, I just lost it. I did the selfish thing and took care of myself instead of helping you through it. I am so, so, sorry." You both cried and held each other until you were out of tears.

"I've missed you," you said after a while.

"R-really?"

"Yeah... Not in an 'I forgive you' way. It's just... I'm tired, I'm scared, I'm confused... I have no idea where I am, how I got here, or how long I've been here. Please just take me home."

"Of course. Anything you want, Y/N."

While you may have agreed to come home with Tony, your relationship was not fixed. Far from it. However, it was a start. Relationships took time and effort. You began seeing marriage councillors and grievance councillors to help you deal with your loss. Slowly but surely, the two of you were back on the mend.

One morning, Tony woke to the sound of you sobbing from the bathroom.

"Y/N? What's wrong?" He was quite alarmed by this. With a shaking hand, you held up the pregnancy test that you had taken. He took it from you and smiled when he saw it was positive but it suddenly faded.

"Wait, why are you crying?"

"Because I'm scared. What if I lose this one too? I can't... I can't go through that again, Tony. Not again." Your arms protectively folded over your stomach. Tony sat next to you and cupped your face to make you look at him.

"That wasn't your fault, Y/N. It was just a freak thing of nature but I promise you that if it does happen again, I will support you no matter what." You nodded and he kissed your forehead.

Nine months later, you safely gave birth to a beautiful and healthy little boy. You and Tony were absolutely over the moon.
