This rant will be in 2 parts : The discussion and the drama. The second part is only optional and can be skipped. Thank you for your time.
One thing I hate more than anything is lies. Especially if there are helpless people out there who believe those said lies and believe them whole-heartedly.
As seen in many of my rants, I personally favor the idea of giving sources when sharing an image. While many have complaint that not everyone does this, therefor being used as an argument that not everyone needs to do it because it is not an obligation, I dare to disagree.
While we have lived in an age where the internet has a vast knowledge, easily helping pinpoint that sources for certain information and images, we cannot merely rely on those alone.
Having the initiative to give our sources for images and information therefor benefits the people who sees it and helps the source gain more recognition, while we respect their work. It's a win-win.
While yes, sometimes it is very tedious to give the sources of certain things in the internet (although it literally is just Copy+Paste), I feel like we help the community become a more organized place. I mean, If I struggle each and everyday, looking for original artists before I save their work in my computer and add a watermark myself, what about others? (I mean I think having an obsession for giving credit is a personal problem, but I'm not the only person on the earth who struggles to find the sources)
These days, the truth can be fabricated depending on the user's desires. Unless we show initiative, we can never be truly sure if the information is true or not. I mean especially if it comes from here.
The problem is, that some people don't even care if what they are saying is truth or not. I encounter people who only cares about their viewership and to be able to spread their beliefs, in a way that ends up making them call it facts instead of headcanons.
Not in all instances that was you believe or read is true, and that's why I emphasize my love for giving sources so much: it helps validate your own statements. Unless what you are talking about is common sense, if you desire to spread knowledge on a topic, or share images in the form of books (which are btw, extremely unnecessary and completely useless), giving proof or sources shows that not only do you support the source, but you are also willing to have them learn things on their own
A big reason why this rant even exists is because there are books here who thrive on giving people information, that doesn't need to be given.
Sure, you have your own right to post these kinds of books, but what is the point? Why give people information they already know? Why can't you let people have the initiative to do research on their own to feed their own curiosity? It's not that I'm against them, I just find them unnecessary.
To have someone make a whole book, filled with spoon-feeding Sonic fans by giving them information, that at this point should be basic for them, and having them look so surprised and constantly agree with them just makes me feel bad for some reason, because while I am happy that they get to know new things about the franchise, I feel like having them self-study seems much more fulfilling.
Of course while that is a very selfish argument, I feel like creator of books like this gets views and attention by literally cop-pasting information from the internet, that can easily be accessible by a mere google search
But that's its own kind of case. Of course while there are books who attract attention to themselves with books that just copies its information online (I don't think this is serious enough to call plagiarism, mostly because I'm still not aware of the full extent of the term, but for now I'll call it that), we should go back to the topic of books who cater by coating their own personal beliefs as the truth without hesitation.
