JUNGKOOK'S POV

"Seoyeon?" I asked, my heart thumping hard as I managed to escape from the weird glances and shut the door behind me.

Standing alone outside our dorms, I stared at my phone for a moment before putting it against my ear again.

"Jiyong sun-"

I felt tension accumulate in me as I was met with silence. I was confused but I didn't hang up, not with my heart racing and my mind repeatedly replaying the moment my phone buzzed.

She sent me a heart... Was that perhaps a sign?

"Seoyeon?" I asked again but by the time I heard a shuffle on the other line, that small red heart had started to crack.

On this end, I'm blind. I can't say I know what is happening over there. But I felt it...

I shifted, my eyebrows raised while waiting for Seoyeon to say something. She left the call going for this entire time...

"Jungkook?" Another voice. A close whisper. I didn't say anything and he knew.

Kwon Jiyong. He is my idol and my inspiration. It hurts me even more because I respect him so much. His work, his passion, his success... But out of everything and everyone in this world, we both chose the same girl.

"It's...it's important." I heard a faint stutter in her tone.

I internally cursed. As much as I should hang up, I didn't want to. If I did, isn't that too obvious to him? It's not a competition but every move counts as a signal, to me, to Seoyeon and to him.

We are the only ones in this three-sided game, aiming to snap it into a single line.

I heard a thud and guessed that the phone was thrown somewhere. Their voices seemed more distant.

"Jiyong sunbae, chaeseonghamida. I'm really confused right now. I don't know what's happening."

There was silence before Seoyeon broke it again.

"Why did you do that?"

"Why do I have to give you a reason?"

My heart pulsated rapidly. I didn't think this was a conversation I should be hearing. I don't want to compete and I don't want to create a barrier between someone I will always admire and the inspiration that had driven me to where I am right now.

Love and work are separate.

"I will always respect you. But just this, I can't let you win. It won't happen." I could only mouth those unheard words over the phone.

Out of everything and everyone in this world, we both chose to do the same thing on the same night.

To the same girl.

SEOYEON'S POV

Never did I feel so unstable before. I didn't dare to breathe and when I opened my eyes, his lips left mine. I struggled to break free, his cold fingers now against my neck.

Jiyong finally let go and I turned around before taking a peek at my phone. Jungkook didn't hang up? Did he hear anything?

"Jungkook?"

I froze for a moment before giving a hasty reply. "It's...it's important." I only stuttered in my response.

Jiyong reached forward and grabbed my phone before chucking it onto his bed. He looked at me again, his eyes demanding answers.
