Wook was in the middle of his investigation. It was late at night and he was following a potential lead to the evidence he was trying to get.
That Damiwon court lady was talking to someone wearing black clothes and her face was covered with a hood.
Is that Queen Yoo?
Wook tried his best to hide himself well and listen to their conversation. But his distance was not close enough to understand anything.
The woman in black had given the Damiwon court lady her payment. The court lady bowed and Wook took the metal pin from the bun of his hair and waited for the court lady to walk past where he was hiding.
When the court lady did, Wook quickly seized her and pointed the metal hairpin on her neck.
"Please don't kill me..." the court lady pleaded as the woman in black hid herself.
"If you give me an honest testimony, you will live," Wook said and the court lady fearfully nodded at him.
"Why don't you come out now?" he said to the woman in black, hiding on a corner. "Are you going to let this court lady sell you out?"
Wook waited and when she remained in her hiding place, he said in a louder and more threatening voice, "Must I call the royal guards now?!"
He thought that he had finally resolved the case and saved Hae Soo when the woman in black revealed herself to him but he was wrong. Wook was terribly shaken when the woman had taken off her hood. He was not expecting that face.
He was not expecting Yeon Hwa.
He loosened his grip on the court lady and she took it as a chance to distance herself from him.
"Why... are you here?" Wook asked unable to believe what he was seeing.
"Is the reason important?" Yeon Hwa asked without any trace of guilt in her eyes. "Just tell the king that I did it and save Soo."
"If your crime is exposed, our family will become traitors," Wook said and his disbelief was replaced with anger.
"Yes," Yeon Hwa agreed with an annoying smile.
She is smiling in the middle of this chaos? Is this how deep greed had consumed her?
Wook never thought that his younger sister would go down this far.
"I will be hanged and Mother will be exiled," she said as if Wook would just let that happen to them. "Our home in Hwangju will become a wasteland."
"Why?!" Wook roared in fury.
"I wanted to wake you up," Yeon Hwa snapped back at him. "You should be this nation's king but you are throwing that away because of that girl!"
"I do not want to be a king!"
"No!" Yeon Hwa said, silencing Wook. "You want to be a king. When you are alone... what are your inner, deepest thoughts? What are you thinking as you watch the Fourth Prince at the rain ritual? That is my seat. Those cheers should be for me. I saw it with my own eyes. You want to be a king. If you still say it is not true, you can throw Mother and me away. I will not resent you. I am prepared for death when I did this."
Wook saw the court lady quietly making her way out of that place and he quickly throw his metal hairpin to her, hitting her accurately on the neck, instantly killing her.
