Carl

You were sitting in your cell reading a book Daryl had found for you while in a run. You loved reading. All kinds of literature. But your favorite genre was fantasy. You had already read the hole 'Harry Potter' series before the outbreak and Beth gave you a copy of 'Percy Jackson' when you stayed in the farm. Now you were trying to read 'The Hobbit'. The other kids around the prison didn't understand your obsession with books. All of them except Carl.

Carl had been your best friend since you two were little kids. You were Shane Walsh's niece. You were spending the weekend in his house when the apocalypse started and he took you with him and Lori to Atlanta. You and Carl became even closer than before.

Carl was everything you had left. When your Uncle died, you were devastated, but a little relieved at the same time. He had been acting different around you, colder than before. You could say you thought he was going insane. And Carl helped you trough it. Every step of the grief.

And now you started feeling different towards him. You felt your heart flutter every time he smiled or laughed. You thought you had a small crush on him... okay, maybe a huge crush.

As you were absorbed in your thoughts, not even paying attention to the book anymore, a knock came from the door.

"Hey, (Y/N)."

"Oh, hey Carl!"

"What are you doing?" he asked, smiling.

"Reading."

"Again?"

"Again."

He sat down next to you and bumped your shoulders.

"What is it this time?"

"'The Hobbit'." you explained.

"What is it about?" he looked genuinely.

"Well, it's about a Hobbit, which is a small creature with pointy ears and big, hairy feet, that goes on an adventure with a grey wizard and thirteen dwarves. Their mission is to recover the dwarves' treasure, that has been protected by a dragon."

He smiled. You felt a blush spreading across your cheeks and smiled back, shyly.

"That sounds nice."

"It is." you answered "You should read it. I could lend it to you."

"Nah, I'm more of a comic book kinda guy."

You chuckled.

"Okay, Comic Book Guy, I won't press it any further."

You two stayed in a comfortable silence for a few minutes. Every now and then, you would glance at Carl and find him deep in thought.

After a while he turned to you, his cheeks slightly pink.

"Hey... Uh... I was wondering if... Mhmm..."

"Just say it already!" you faked annoyance.

"Well... Have you had your first kiss already...?" he looked away.

You were puzzled. Why would he want to know? And you were best friends, you always told each other everything that happened in your lives.

"Uh, nope. Why do you want to know?"

"Umm... I was wondering if you'd like to.. Uh... maybe kiss me?" he was as red as a tomato.

"Uh..." that was a weird question.

"You know... we are friends and I wanted to share my first kiss with someone special and... with the world as it is... I just don't want to share with a random stranger and one of us could die tomorrow, you know what I mean?"

It was a little confusing. But you kind of understood, he was your best friend and with walkers walking around one of you could, indeed, die tomorrow and you would never have your first kiss. And besides, you did have a crush on him.

"O-Okay."

He smiled a little and leaned towards you. With your eyes closed, you pressed your lips to his. It was a simple kiss, not very long, but it meant the world to you.

After you pulled away, Carl was smiling.

"Hey, (Y/N), would you maybe like to be my girlfriend from now on?"

You smiled widely and blushed again.

"Of course, Carl. I would love to!"
