It was hard to see through the sheets of rain that were coming down as I drove down this dark road, but it was a road I was familiar with so I wasn't too worried. I wanted to drive to clear my head & ended up heading toward my best friend, Marissa's place. She didn't even know I was coming, so I wasn't even sure she would be home. I really didn't care anyway. I wasn't sure I'd end up at her place, I just knew I needed to drive. I needed to run from the demons that were in my home. I do wish I had checked the weather before I left, because I couldn't clear my head & really think, if I had to concentrate on my driving.

My headlights fell on a car, on the side of the road as I neared a curve, so I slowed down. As I passed the car, I looked to see if there was anyone in it, just in case someone might be in trouble. I saw no one, so I sped up to my previous speed.

I had the volume on the radio turned down so I could concentrate, but I felt like I should pull over until the rain slowed down

I had the volume on the radio turned down so I could concentrate, but I felt like I should pull over until the rain slowed down. My wipers were on high speed & they really were doing nothing except make an annoying noise. I wasn't doing the speed limit & I probably wasn't even close, but I was always one to be safe rather than sorry, especially when it came to driving. Granted, my life lately has led me to be a little more daring & now I was finding myself taking more risks than I used to. Maybe it was because I knew how short life could be.

I felt my forehead crease as I concentrated on the road, through the curtain of rain, that was in front of my car. As I went around another slight curve, my lights landed on a dark figure & it made me jump, instinctively braking. The figure seemed to me a man wearing a dark coat & he was walking backwards, looking as if he was trying to avoid the rain pelting him in the face. His head was down but as I got closer, he lifted his eyes & I could see he was very handsome. The car I had seen a few miles back, was probably his. He didn't have his thumb up or even look like he expected me to stop, but I slowed down as I came up beside him.

I pressed the button to roll down my passenger window & leaned as he stopped walking & squinted, looking inside my car

I pressed the button to roll down my passenger window & leaned as he stopped walking & squinted, looking inside my car. "Is that your car back there?" I asked, loudly & he nodded, looking very confused. "It's a long walk to the nearest town. Get in & I'll give ya a lift."
