What If?

Lloyd sighed and rested his forehead against the wall. Everything felt distant, unreal. How could y/n not remember him? They'd stopped b/f/n and their evil duplicates. They'd won, fair and square. Everything was supposed to be okay now. That was how it worked, right?

Right?

Lloyd sighed again and straightened up. He needed to tell the others what had happened before y/n got dressed. She'd been through enough already-she didn't need to hear a lot of awkward questions on top of that. And amnesia or not, y/n was his girlfriend. Lloyd wasn't going to let her go through this alone.

Lloyd slammed his fists into a punching bag, one after the other. Training had become his way of handling frustration, but no amount of training could seem to help him cope with the issue that was on his mind at the moment. He kept punching, harder and harder, until he landed one punch too many. The punching bag jerked loose from its hook, fell to the floor, and broke open.

"I sense that something is troubling you, nephew," Sensei Wu said quietly.

Lloyd jumped, the stepped in front of the punching bag in a futile attempt to try and hide it. "How'd you guess?" he joked weakly.

Sensei Wu placed a hand on Lloyd's shoulder. "Would you like to talk about it?"

Lloyd shook his head. "Nah..."

With a nod, Sensei Wu turned to leave. He was almost to the door when Lloyd changed his mind.

"U-uncle," Lloyd called after him. 'What if...y/n...doesn't...remember?"

"You have memories of her too, you know," his uncle replied. "You can share those, and make new ones."

"Well, yeah, but..." Lloyd hesitated. "It wouldn't be the same. And what if we have to deal with b/f/n and our duplicates again? What's going to happen to y/n then?"

For once, Sensei Wu didn't seem to have an answer. "We will have to wait and see, nephew."

"So you're saying we met on an online dating website?" y/n asked.

"That's what I'm saying," Lloyd replied.

Y/n snorted. "Don't be ridiculous. There's no way I'd sign up for online dating."

Jay snickered from behind the couch. "That's what Lloyd said!"

"We had to literally drag him to the computer!" Kai added with a laugh.

Jay snorted loudly. "Easy for you to say-Zane and I did all the work!" Lloyd facepalmed. Of course they would bring that up, along with any other embarrassing details they could think of. He should have known better than to let the others into the room while he talked to y/n.

Y/n turned to glare over the back of the couch. "Do you guys mind?"

"No, not at all," Kai said with that annoying grin on his face.

"Why don't you just take a picture while you're at it?" y/n demanded.

Cole straightened up. "Picture? Y/n, you're a genius!" He ran out of the room.

"What?" y/n asked. Lloyd resisted the urge to groan. He knew exactly where this was going.

Cole came back in holding his scrapbook. "You owe me an apology, Lloyd! I told you my camera would come in handy someday!"

"What-?" y/n began. Cole plopped the scrapbook down on her lap and started flipping pages.

"I know it's in here somewhere..." he muttered. "Aha! You and Lloyd kissing!"

Lloyd glared at Cole. "I thought you got rid of that!" The only reason Cole had escaped serious injury last time Lloyd and y/n caught him was by promising to destroy every single copy of the pictures he'd taken. Apparently, he hadn't quite lived up to his end of the bargain.

Cole held up a finger. "You owe me one." Lloyd scowled. Cole was right-Lloyd did owe him one now-but that didn't mean he had to like it.

Lloyd looked over y/n's shoulder. The photo was easy to recognize, although he wished he hadn't had chocolate all over his face. "That was our first kiss," he said quietly.

"I-I think...didn't Cole get beaten up for taking this picture?" y/n asked.

Everyone in the room froze. "Yeah," Cole said slowly. "How did you know that?"

Y/n shrugged. "It came to me. Just now. Why?"

"Y/n, you just remembered something!" Jay yelled. "This is great! Do you remember anything else?"

"Other than the fact that you're annoying?" y/n asked sarcastically.

Lloyd didn't say anything. He just stared at the picture in y/n's lap, trying to blink away the tears that were filling his eyes. Maybe...maybe it wasn't as bad as he'd thought. Maybe y/n was going to remember.

Maybe all he had to do was be patient.
