"Jay's all yours," you snap. "You deserve each other." Then you shove past Nya and run out of the monastery.

You slam the front door behind you and start to make your way down the road. Could this day get any worse? Your ex-almost-boyfriend cheated on you, the sun is going down, the nearest bus stop is almost two miles away, and you 'accidentally' forgot your phone in your brother's car so he couldn't call and annoy you during your date.

"This is what I get for trusting a computer," you mutter, kicking at a nearby rock. "Stupid Nya. Stupid Jay. Stupid—ahh!"

You trip and fall onto the pavement, skinning your elbow and knees and tearing your dress. You lie there for a moment, then slowly pull yourself to your feet. The tears you've been trying to hold back start to spill down your cheeks.

"Y/n?" a voice asks from behind you. "Are you okay?"

You turn around and see Cole walking toward you. "Aren't you supposed to be with your cheating girlfriend?" you snap angrily.

"We kind of just broke up," Cole says. "I needed to cool off before I could face the guys."

You turn and start walking toward the bus stop. "Well, enjoy yourself."

Cole jogs a few steps to catch up with you. "You didn't answer my question, y/n. Are you okay?"

You stop and give Cole a tired glare. "Do I look okay?" you snap. You don't wait for Cole to answer. Instead, you turn and start walking again, leaving him standing by the side of the road.

"For what it's worth, y/n, you deserve better than that," Cole calls after you. You slow to a stop and look over your shoulder. Cole starts walking again, and this time you wait for him to catch up.

"Seriously," he continues. "No one should have to deal with that kind of thing."

You take a deep breath and slowly let it out. "Same to you."

"Hey, y/n, I know you probably hate me now and whatnot, but can I at least give you a ride home? The bus stop's still a mile and a half down the road and it's getting dark," Cole says. "Sensei Wu has a car I can borrow, and this way nobody has to worry about you getting home safely."

You glance up the road again, then sigh mentally. Cole's right. It seems like he always is.

"Fine," you say. "Let's get this over with."

You and Cole walk back to the monastery and sneak around to the back. Cole opens the door to a detached garage and unlocks an old-looking car that's parked near the back.

"Here it is," he says, opening the passenger door for you.

"So, what now?" you ask sarcastically. "You going to ask me out? Try to kiss me in the backseat?"

"Not everyone wants something from you, y/n," Cole says. "Some people just do nice things for their friends."

"And you're my friend?"

Cole is silent for a moment. 'Well, I'd like to hope so."

You sit quietly, lost in thought, while Cole starts the engine and maneuvers the car down the monastery's driveway. Is Cole your friend? You're kind of a nerd, so you don't have many friends, and b/f/n is the only person you'd think of as a true friend. Your experience with people is that they always want something from you. But...maybe that's not true.

You finally decide to speak up. "Cole?"

"Yeah?" Cole replies, his eyes focused on the road.

"I'm...sorry I was rude to you earlier. I just wasn't in a good mood, and I kind of took it out on you."

"That's okay," Cole says. "Kai does that all the time. He says things he doesn't mean, and then he's too embarrassed to apologize for it. I've done it, too."

"What do you think I should do?" you ask hesitantly. "About Jay?"

Cole sighs slowly. "He's a good friend and a great brother, you know. He just doesn't seem to understand the concept of consequences. Give it some time. If you still want to be with him, I guess you can take him back."

"And if I don't?"

"Then I guess you can move on."

There's another ling silence.

"Y/n?" Cole says slowly.

"Yeah?"

"You're my friend, right?"

You give him a small smile. "I'd like to hope so."

"What do you think about Nya?"

You lean back in your seat, trying to come up with an honest answer. "Well, do you really like her?"

Cole hesitates. "No, not really. I guess she just wanted attention or something, and I thought I liked her because she acted interested in me."

"Then drop her. Move on. Find someone who's worth your time."

Cole stops the car, and you realize that you're in front of your house. "Thanks for the help, y/n. You want to know something?"

"Sure, what?" you ask.

"If I had a sister, I hope she'd be like you."

You smile. "I wish my brothers were more like you. Good luck, Cole."

"Thanks, y/n."

You climb out of the car, walk up your driveway, and prepare to face your brothers.
