So, I did a bit of digging and found out that Kishimoto – the one who created Naruto – has a new series called Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru. I decided to check out how it's being rated and what people are saying, but with numerous number of reviews giving such high praise, I began wondering if the manga is getting a higher rating than it should because of Kishimoto fans – the rabid kind, latching onto anything.
Well, I've not checked out the actual Manga yet, but there were a few things which definitely sent warning bells out for me. Her are a few quotes from various reviews.
" "Samurai 8" might seem confusing and fast-paced at the moment; however, it is alright though since this work's predecessor did that exact same thing. "Naruto" speeded through its first chapter and still became a great manga."
A series starting off confusing is never a good thing, but this also justaposed with the idea Naruto is actually a great Manga. I wouldn't even call it a good Manga, with all the flaws. It's an okay Manga which could have been great.
"[i} Kishimoto strikes back! And this time he want to outclass even his previous success, Naruto. Can Kishi-sensei succeed? Right now he has all the cards to do it![/i]"
Success doesn't equate quality. Look at Twilight. This isn't to say there aren't things which were great about Naruto – that it didn't have a ton of potential, but it didn't meet that potential.
" Why 8? Because, the premise of SCI FI Samurai with a lot of Japanese legends is, itself, very good and very fresh,"
I was not surprised to see this person doesn't have many entries on their list, but more importantly we could cut that amount down due to most two-thirds of said list being things they plan to watch. Actually, their birthday is visible so I can also say they're not yet eighteen either. The sci-fi Samurai thing – it's not a brand new idea like they think, the one popping into my head being Samurai 7, which is a major reason for me to think – no, this isn't going to be very original.
That doesn't set me up well for going to go and read the actual Manga.
