A young teenage girl, haunted by the memories of her father's execution, attempts to escape a cruel regime by night. A solitary woman, abandoned by her husband, inadvertently plays into the cruel hands of 'the state'. In another totalitarian regime a traffic light fixer is dealt with brutally for admiring a sunset. All these characters capture the essence of what it's like to be disempowered and cruelly dehumanised at the hands of a heinous, corrupt power. This sharp collection of pertinent short stories throws an at times uncomfortable light on cruelty, injustice and persecution that is all too relevant today. But ultimately these stories celebrate the strength and determination to survive at all costs, that exists within all of us.

Draven Ironjaw isn't a hero-he's a blood-red-eyed dwarf warlord who carves kingdoms from terror. Born cursed, he became the monster they called him: skinning victims to wear their faces, breaking women into breeding vessels, and butchering anyone who crosses him. He executes the gas-masked Mad Prophet by forcing him to eat his own limbs before stomping his skull into a red smear (*"This is for Moria"*). He invades a dwarven harem palace where 12 stolen women worship him. He interrupts a picnic, rapes a virgin while her boyfriend watches, then skins the man's face to wear as a trophy. On a quiet farm, he snaps Jeb's neck, forces wife Martha (renamed *Silvara Ironjaw*) to cook her husband's dismembered body, and rapes her until she orgasms against her will-then decides to *"treat her kindly"* because she's *"a prize worth preserving."* Hunted by armored guards, he butchers six men and rapes the last survivor, sending him running with a message: *"The Ironjaw is coming."* But in a tavern, elven bounty hunter Kaelen sweeps his legs and pins a dagger to his throat. She frees Silvara, bans him from her village, and gives him a mission: *"Find who betrayed me. Ever second spent in the Upside-down would turn her more and more, just like the others. The Weevil More of a parasite than a monster, this creature buries itself in the deep folds of your mind, planting itself in your memory as it controls its victim's movements by influence their thoughts and draining their blood. It continues to feed off the host until death, moving onto the next body. The Weaver A master illusionist and copycat, this creature could turn into your worst nightmares, feeding off your anguish, fear, and any other negative emotion they could think of. They could mimic anyone to a tee, even disguising itself as the victim's subconscious. The physical manifestation of fear, not just in their mind. So when chance gives an opening to pursue a career in the dream job that Raj had aspired for all his life, of course he's going to take it (duh)! Even if it's out of town, in a place that he's never heard of, has no online presence whatsoever, and is filled to the brim with strangeness that no sane person would ever have expected. But hey, it's all gonna be worth it in the end right? Well Raj sure hopes so.

Hades is filled with hate, anger, and vengeance, his only source of happiness is when people die and he knows their families are sad. His siblings would do anything to prove that they love him and so they created her, but Hades wants nothing to do with her. she has lived in nothing but pain, she's been abused her whole life by the people that were supposed to keep her away from monsters.
