I had seen Ryan and Lexi arguing often, giving empty threats to each other. But the siblings fight that I had just witnessed was on another level.

If Gran had been here, she would beat the shit out of Eva until she learned the manners to not throw things at people. Thomas would have been spanked for calling the girl, a bitch.

First, my father was a single child and then, she was looking after me. I wondered if she could even handle more than one child.

But more than that, I wondered if she was missing me now. That old woman couldn't do a day without me. If I had even poked the topic of night staying in Lexi's room, we would argue until she would call Lexi to stay with me in my room.

After spending whole day in school, our conversations about TV shows and bitching about people of our society were my jam. It was rare that her first cousin would come for summer vacations. Barely two-three times. I couldn't imagine how she was even spending time with her.

"Misty?"

I blinked, realizing the wetness at the corner of my eyes. Wiping it immediately, I heard Keira sitting beside me on the porch. I was watching the pups playing outside. Everyone around the valley was having light walks after dinner.

The males had gone to their rooms while Mom and Taria were still gossiping inside on the dining table. The moment she started talking about missing Gilbert, I walked out and sat here.

"You are crying?"

I sniffled properly and shook my head. "Nope."

Keira sighed, playing along and started watching the pups playing like me. "Is it about Uncle Gilbert again?"

I shook my head and then, nodded. He was the root of my all problems. "I miss my Gran."

"The Ceremony is right on our nose. It's just eighteen days left. Then, you'll be with her only," said Keira, chuckling lightly.

I looked at her in frustration. "In the cities," I said while using my hands to display my emphasis. "When you go out of your home even for an hour, your family member can call you on the phone to ask stuff. When you are away for two or three days, you can call your loved ones daily without any remorse. The recharge packs are affordable-"

"What are you trying to say?" Keira was confused but she was polite at least.

I gave her a blank look. "That in today's world, Mobile Phone is a necessity. People uses smartphones, use social media and what not. We read memes and laugh, stalks celebs and what not. Our lives revolve around the phone."

Keira's eyebrows furrowed.

"And I am staying here without a phone. It's like I am living without my boyfriend," I said, looking at her.

Realization hit her eyes as she nodded slowly. "They took your phone."

"They didn't let me take it. I was calling the police and there they were outside, on our porch to kidnap me," I said, remembering the scene. "What a wild night it was! I recognize Pete but Ivan was the first one who showed up. You know, except for my best friend, Lexi and her brother, Ryan. No male comes to our home. Gran has female friends. We were so scared at seeing Ivan. We knew, I fucked up by throwing out Mom and Pete on my birthday night."

Keira nodded with a smile. "I remember. Aunt Malina jumped out of the car, entered the house and burst into tears. Uncle Gilbert tried to ask but she was breaking. She slapped on his chest, threw fists and even slapped herself. There was a lot of drama that night. And soon, you arrived that morning. . ."
