Chapter 5

"Stay away from me! You monster!"

The words in his head echoes. It has been two days after that incident and he still couldn't forget what she called him.

The words reminded him of what he is and it brought doubt, pain, and paranoia inside him.

"-You monster!"

The words keep echoing inside his head and Kaneki couldn't stand it.

It is true that he is a monster but he didn't choose to be this way. He also didn't want this. He never wanted to be a monster. Never did.

Kaneki leaned back on his chair before sighing deeply with a somber expression on his face.

"I guess no matter what world I'm in, I am still a monster."

Gotham City. The breeding ground for evil and injustice. The home for snakes and spiders. It's streets filled with crime and drugs.

Atop a tall skyscraper, Batman is scouting for any signs of criminal activity.

His mind slowly wanders to the fact that he has to tell Kaneki to defend this city every nighttime so that he could meet the Aquaman without any worry that Gotham might be attacked or something.

"I will be counting on you, Kaneki."

In an undisclosed location, Lex Luthor was sitting on an expensive looking chair with G-15 standing right beside him.

One thing the two had in common is that they are waiting for a certain mercenary.

After half an hour, the door was opened by none other than the terminator himself; Deathstroke.

He stepped forward with caution before approaching the two dangerous individuals especially the one standing right beside Lex Luthor.

"What is it that you want with me at this hour, Luthor?" Deathstroke questioned with his arms crossed.

"Hmm, gee, let me start at the beginning," Lex adopted a thinking position before continuing, "Oh, right. We've just recieved information where the Joker is located after being captured by the Task Force X."

"Let me guess, you want me to break him out." Deathstroke deduced and his eyes narrowed in suspicion.

"Yes." Lex nodded before smiling wickedly, "That's a righto there, my dear mercenary."

"I only have one question; why?"

"I believe he can be an asset for us in capturing Ken Kaneki."

"Why would you believe that?"

"That is because Ken Kaneki is the sole reason as to why he is in his current predicament."

"I see."

Bruce came home late as usual and Kaneki was a bit glad that he didn't have a lot of bruises and minor cuts this time.

It was already 6 in the morning when he arrived and Kaneki was already preparing himself for school.

As Kaneki welcomed him back, Bruce placed his hand on his shoulder and spoke, "Kaneki. After school, I have to tell you something very important. But for now, go to school and don't be late."

"Sure thing, Bruce-san." Kaneki nodded in understanding before walking out the door.

Once he was outside, Kaneki had one question lingering in his mind; 'What was that about?'

Knowing he will recieve answers later, Kaneki just walked to the garage and picked one special car; A black 2017 Ford Mustang.

Rachel Roth was on her way to school but she was a bit disappointed that Kaneki isn't with her for today.

It is just not the same if he is not with her. All those years being with him have made her infatuated to him. He was always there when she needed any help or support. There was one time that Kaneki got sick and Rachel couldn't find a date for the school prom. But that is until Kaneki forced himself out of his sick bed and became her date instead.

And that was the day, she knew that she's in love with him.

As Rachel was about to take another step, a honk from a black 2017 Ford Mustang shocked her out of her wits.

Annoyed, Rachel turned her head around to see who was the driver inside the car and she was surprised to see that it was him.

Ken Kaneki in a plain black long sleeved shirt and dark pants. He smiled at seeing her current expression before gesturing her to get inside which she did but with hesitation.

Once she was inside, she was greeted by a cool atmosphere from the air conditioner and a warm hug from Kaneki which made her cheeks began to heat up.

"I gotta say. Seeing your face like that was kinda cute." Kaneki commented before his hands was on the wheels again.

Due to the warm hug Kaneki gave her, Rachel didn't have the strength to say a proper reply to his words and instead kept her mouth shut.

"You're awfully silent for today. What's wrong?"

Forcing herself, Rachel finally replied, "Oh, it's nothing actually. Just don't have a lot of energy for today."

"If that's the case, you can sleep here while I drive and make our way to school."

"Oh, no. No thanks. I prefer to sleep in bed."

"Suit yourself then."

They then continued their way to school in awkward silence which Kaneki didn't mind but Rachel was a different story.

Deathstroke continues to look at the small building from his binocular. Just by looking at it, he knew it is filled with highly trained security guards which will be difficult but not impossible.

Now, all he needed is to wait for the suicide bomber he sent there to explode.

Working with Lex Luthor does have it's perks.

Once they arrived at school, they quickly went to their classroom before they are bombarded by tests, quizzes, and performance tasks.

Kaneki and Rachel performed well at everything the teachers throws them. Although, Rachel was slightly higher than Kaneki at the performance tasks category which Kaneki still didn't mind.

Even though they weren't the smartest in school, they are still one of the best that managed to reach the top ten.

When school was done, Kaneki drove Rachel back home which resulted another hug from Kaneki.

After that, Kaneki decided to drive back to his home where he will recieve his answers.
