The Secret
"Congratulations, guys!" Steve beamed, bringing the married couple into a giant hug, something he wasn't able to do before he got the Super serum.
The two other people beamed back at him. "It's all because of you, man!" Bucky exclaimed, patting him on the shoulder. "If you didn't come to save me at that HYDRA base, I wouldn't be here right now marrying your little sister."
"Hey, I can beat you up now, remember that." Steve warned half-jokingly. He turned to the woman that married his best friend. "Madeleine, you look beautiful."
"Thanks, Steve." she smiled at her big brother shakily. A tear slipped out of her eye making her giggle. "Gosh, I'm crying. I'm sorry,"
"It's your wedding, I don't blame you." He pulled her into another hug. "I mean, you did marry a big idiot -"
"Hey!" Bucky laughed, punching his shoulder lightly. The trio all shared a laugh, that was suddenly interrupted by a flash. They looked in the direction of the flash to see it came from Howard Stark with his camera.
"Sorry," he shrugged nonchalantly, "for the memories."
"Thanks, Howard." Madeleine told the genius, resting her head comfortingly on her husband's chest. Bucky smiled down at her lovingly, pressing a kiss to her temple. Another flash went.

"Knew I would find you here." Steve turned to the Black Widow momentarily before facing the glass plaque in front of him. "Out of all the places here in Washington, you chose the Smithsonian where they have a whole floor just for you."
"It's not just me." Steve said quietly, still staring at the plaque in front of him sadly. "It's the Howling Commandos and. . ."
"And your sister." Natasha finished softly, staring at the plaque with him. It was about Madeleine Sarah Rogers, and how she was an important role in Steve's life apart from being his little sister.
She looked after him when it was just the two, she supported him in everything he dreamed - even wanting to go into the army despite his weak figure at the time. She still supported him after the serum, and even helped him during war. Though she wasn't with them in the field, she still helped behind the scenes being the brain of the group. She was his best friend along with Bucky Barnes, and Steve would forever remember her.
"It's her birthday, isn't it." Steve nodded in reply. "It must be heartbreaking for you to not know what happened to her." After Bucky fell off the train, Madeleine fully believed that he wasn't gone, and went to search for him in the snows days after the news. She used to contact Steve every two days when suddenly she no longer contacted him. From what Steve gathered after waking up in the future, Howard and Peggy found no sign of Madeleine from her last destination, and was deemed MIA.
"I wish I knew what happened to her," Steve murmured sadly, "she was my baby sister."
"I know," Natasha rubbed his shoulder comfortingly. "It will show up one day, maybe not now, but maybe there will be an answer in the future.

"I feel like you're going for another reason other than the fact you found out your friend is still alive."
"Bucky is still alive to this day," Steve stated, "what if Madeleine is out there as well?"
"We revealed all of HYDRA's information," Natasha told him, "there was no information on your sister."
"But maybe there is, we just haven't found it." Steve shrugged. He turned to her desperately. "This would explain why they couldn't find her back then. She must have gotten taken when she went to where Bucky fell. She probably came across them and tried to get them back. The scenarios are endless!"
"Look, I am happy that one of your best friends have returned, I get that really," Natasha said, "but I don't think Madeleine is here anymore, Steve. There's no sign of her at all. She could have just perished in the cold as heartless as that sounds but I'm just trying to be logical here." They went silent. "Look, when you find Bucky, maybe you can even ask him about her. Maybe he saw her during his time in HYDRA."
"Yeah," he sighed, frowning down at the file in his hands on the Winter Soldier. "Maybe."
"Besides," she looked off to the distance thoughtfully, "he couldn't have done all those assassinations. Some don't look like his MO in a way. . ."
