Ravio always looks like an angry bird because being a raven is not his favorite thing. He prefers to be human, and usually only becomes a raven if he needs to hunt down his brother.
Roul loves nothing more than being an owl. He spends days as the bird, and eats mice and hunts in the night with Bellae, and has even constructed bunches of elaborate perches for him to sit on around the house. Because he and Bellae are nocturnal, they are both more active at night and play tag and Chase in the dark, whether as people or animals.
While it takes a moment for the boys to become birds, and they usually have to put some thought into doing so, Bellae does not. She can be bouncing around one moment as a human, and in the next moment she could be a bat lying on the floor, unsure of how she got like that. She can transform in half a second, in mid-air, and while holding objects or performing other tasks.
She prefers to sleep as a bat, and takes naps during the day hanging from Roul's perches.
