Add a comma when a participle phrase is used.

Include a comma when an adverb clause is used.
- Example: After we eat, we should leave for our trip.
Use a comma to separate parts of a date.
- Example: Tuesday, May 2, 2012 was when I graduated.
Add a comma when two separate sentences are combined.
- Example: We purchased some cheese, and we purchased some fruit.
Use a comma to set off quoted words.
- Example: "I think it is a great idea," said Clark.
