"What do you mean you can't practice?" I mumble into the phone on the verge of tears.
"Babe, I'm really sorry. I know that I have missed a couple practices, but it will be okay. I'll make it up to you, I promise." Josh apologizes through the phone.
"Josh it's been more than a few, and I really want to make sure that we are prepared, this recital is kind of a big deal for me." I explain to him, wiping away the silent tears that I don't let him hear.
"Mia, calm down. It's going to be fine, we still have plenty of time to practice. Now, I really have to go." With that my boyfriend ends the call. I bury my face into my pillow and let out a muffled, yet frustrated scream. Camila comes out of the bathroom at that moment.
"Hey, what's the matter sweetie?" She immediately comes over to my bed and rubs my back when she sees my face.
"Josh." I utter his name, but I know it's all that I need to say.
"He blew you off again?" She asks, bewildered. I nod my head in response.
"You know what Mia, I know he's your boyfriend and everything, but he's really starting to piss me off. I don't know that I like him that much." She mutters.
"I know that it seems like he's being a jerk, but he really is a nice guy. You don't even know him." I automatically defend my boyfriend, even though he just hurt my feelings.
"Are you kidding me, Mia. He's always an asshole to you. He never talks to you, and you guys don't even spend time together." She looks amazed at what I've said, and a little bit hurt as well. I immediately regret defending Josh. Why should I anyway?
"I know, you're absolutely right. I'm sorry." I apologize to my friend.
"It's okay sweetie. I just want you to know what your worth. Let's just talk about something else, okay?" I know she only makes this suggestion because she knows that I don't like talking about this situation. I nod my head anyway.
"Hey, aren't you going to help Charlie?" I get excited at the mention of his name. It was only just yesterday that we all hung out, but I was kind of excited to see him again.
"Yeah, he needs some help with some homework, that's all." I shrug off her suggestive eyebrow wiggles, trying to let her know that it was strictly a friendly homework visit.
"Oooookay Mia." She drags out the 'o' while rolling her eyes at me. "You'd better get ready then, you kind of look like garbage if you don't mind me saying." She laughs
"I mind." I say while laughing.
I quickly get up and change into my favorite ripped skinny jeans and a cute maroon sweater, and throw on my converse. I brush my hair out, hoping to make it look somewhat decent, then I add a little mascara to my eyelashes. I grab my backpack, checking the time. 6:07. That's not too early is it? Oh well, it's close enough to 6:30, Charlie shouldn't mind. I sigh after debating whether to wait a few more minutes or not, and head out the door. I begin the short walk to Charlie and Shawn's apartment after shooting Charlie a text to let him know that I was on my way.
The autumn air was beginning to get colder, especially at this time of day, and it kind of made me wish that I had grabbed a jacket. I squeezed my arms closer to my body and walked a bit quicker. When I arrived to what I assumed was Charlie and Shawn's apartment based on his directions, I quickly knocked on the front door.
After a few moments, Shawn opens up with a confused expression, but nevertheless, a goofy grin as always.
"Hey Mia Mia." He had grown accustomed to saying my first name twice instead of once, like I was a baby or a dog or something.
"Hi Shawney. I'm here to help Charlie." I remind him.
"Oh that's right, come on in." He waves me in, and then puts his hands on his hips dramatically. "Charlie is around here somewhere." He takes in a deep breath before yelling as loud as he possibly could. "CHARLIE OTTO!" Gosh, he sounds like such a mom right now. I try to hold my laughter in.
He looks at me expectantly, and after a minute of silence, he yells again. "CHARLIE OTTO PUTH!"
He begins walking through the apartment after a few more seconds of silence, and waves for me to follow him. "CHARLES OTTO PUTH, YOU HAVE COMPANY, DAMMIT!" Even Shawn struggles to hold his laughter in on that one. We stop walking around after reaching a door, which I presumed to be Charlie's bedroom door. Shawn begins knocking on the door relentlessly and still yelling 'CHARLIE OTTO', occasionally glancing over to giggle with me.
Finally the door swings open with Charlie, dripping wet, standing there with just a towel hanging loosely around his hips. I was taken aback by the sight, considering this is not what I expected to see on the other side of the door. I hadn't realized that I was pretty much staring at his bare chest when he says "Enjoying the view?" with a cocky smirk on his lips.
Fuck.
I blush crimson and try to laugh it off, but it comes out as an awkward cough.
Fuck.
"Well, I guess I'll leave you to it." Shawn smirks at me. Asshole.
"I didn't expect you until 6:30, so I thought I would, you know, take a quick shower." Charlie teases me about my eagerness, and I blush even harder, if possible. I shrug my shoulders casually, trying not to stare at his exposed v-line.
"I'm kidding, come on in." He rolls his eyes playfully and smiles, but I'm stuck in place. Why is he inviting me into his bedroom when he's 80% naked?
He seems to notice this. "I have a bathroom, and I plan on getting dressed. Don't worry." He has trouble containing his laughter, so I flick the back of his head.
"Now is not the time to try to get physical with me Mia. I mean, oh my gosh, I'm practically naked." God, now I see why he and Shawn are best friends.
"Shut up Charlie." He laughs as he steps into his bathroom to put some clothes on.
I glance around his room, taking in the tidy appearance (I was surprised), before I sat myself in a chair at his desk. There were actually two desks, this one had homework, books, and a laptop. The other desk had a comfortable looking rolly chair, a fancy looking computer, a huge set of headphones, and a keyboard. Hmmm.
Charlie interrupted my observations by appearing, fully clothed, out of the bathroom. "You ready to teach me?" He grins.
"Sure thing." I smile big, but I don't know why. For some reason I feel butterflies in my stomach, and all I'm doing is helping this boy study.
What is happening to me?
. . . . .
