4: Surprise Rooms

The second me step through the door Harry was bombarded with people greeting him. Everyone wanted a handshake or a hug. Harry was in high demand, not that I should be surprised considering who he is but I just assumed we'd be able to step in and join the party partially unnoticed.

But boy am I wrong. It seems there isn't a person in the room who doesn't want a piece of Harry... it must be exhausting for him.

And still with everyone wanting a second of his attention Harry doesn't let me go. When he goes in for a hug, I stand by as Harry slips his hand into mine and he hugs them.

He doesn't let go.

Nah, doesn't mean anything.

It made me feel better and like he cared for me but I have to remember that this isn't anything special. I'm plain and uninteresting compared to every other person in this room especially him. Harry is just... well Harry's Harry, talented, caring, funny, an all around gentleman.

Finally we get to the kitchen, empty of people but filled to the brim of food. Whoever is hosting this party has really gone all out.

Who is hosting anyway?

I stay back as Harry tucks into the bottle of liquor. I never really had a taste for it honestly, it wasn't great for my voice so I never had much... I guess I can have as much as I like now.

"Hey, can I get you a drink?" He asks over his shoulder. I shake my head and he smiles.

Know no, his smile is making me feel... stop that!

"You don't drink?" He turns around, glass in his hand as he leans against counter.

"It's not that I don't I've just never really had much before."

Gosh I must sound so pathetic. College girl and I don't know how to really drink here with a boy whole has toured the world a number of times, experience with all this coming out of his ears.

"Alright, you want a sip?"

He passes the cup to me and I hesitantly wet my lips with the liquid. I can barely taste it but I can feel that it's sweet and bitter as it stings my lips.

Harry chuckles as he watches me. "Did you even get any love?"

"I ehm... it was fine."

An awkward silence looms between us for a moment and I am sure he can hear my heart thumping in my chest.

"There's soda as well if you'd prefer that Mia."

Without a word I nod and take in this place and after a few moments find myself blurting out how overwhelming this all is.

"Understandable," he smirks as I mentally slap myself for letting my feelings be known. "Honestly don't worry Mia. Make yourself at home and if you are still worrying about how you look..." he takes a non-pervy moment to look at me up and down before continuing. "You really don't need to love. You're beautiful."

I watch him finish his drink and get a refill, completely taken with his word.

He thinks I'm beautiful.

Stop, he's just being nice.

Suddenly he's right next to me and rather boldly kisses my temple, apparently instantly loosened by the alcohol.

When he pulls back his eyes are wide but he fixes himself. It's probably just the alcohol.

"I'll be right back," and he turns and leaves.

Well that was weird.

I'm not one for parties generally. Not that I haven't been to parties. When my parents were around we used to go to a ton of events, most of them formal and related to their work, but still.

This situation is completely different. Where I find myself now isn't my world at all. LA is completely different from Washington D.C. that's why I chose this place. No one knows me here or what I used to do. All these years later my doomed career is a distant memory, thoughts of my shining future at Juilliard a rarity even for me.

It's impossible that anyone here would recognize me and I'm relieved.

I fidget with my fingers as I wait around for Harry. Once a few different groups of people have walked in and out of the kitchen I realize that Harry obviously isn't coming back.

Knew it was too good to be true.

Slightly defeated venture out through the house.

It's crowded everywhere. I get bumped from behind and it's now that I realize I'm still wearing his leather jacket. Feeling weird I shrug it off my shoulders and fold it over my arm as I continue to walk around.

Thankfully I find myself in one of the back rooms of the house. It's small and completely deserted.

Finally some peace.

Sun is streaming through the large glass that reveals the perfect view of the ocean. It's a stunning sunset. Honestly I could stay here for hours and just look off into the distance.

This might be my favorite room I've ever been in. Well apart from Carnegie Hall... I shake my head at the thought.

No don't go back to that.

I look around and notice a peculiar sparkle against the clear glass and when I turn around I can see why. Awards and plaques line the entire wall behind me.

Who could have so many of them?

The splendor and subtlety of it is amazing. A complete contradiction.

You wouldn't think a wall full of accolades from around the world would look humbling but I don't see any ego behind it. In actually they seem to be hidden away in this small room not being flashed about on top of the fireplace in the living room. Whoever put them up is definitely proud but not a show off.

Slowly I walk up and start to inspect each one individually.

Billboard Awards, People's and Teen Choice Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, Brit Awards. It's insane and they all have one thing in common.

One Direction.
