Jason tightened the bow and loosened it over and over again, keeping his eyes straight ahead and focusing on the black curtain. He could hear his competitor on stage now, hearing no wrong notes or dynamics. He took in a deep breath, calming his nerves. It was the finales for the String Competition. 1st place gets to join the most elite Symphony Orchestra as lead instrument.

Jason has memorized his piece until he could play it in his sleep. His fingers tapped rapidly on the neck of the cello, hearing the metal string thunk on the wood. The competitor stopped, getting loud cheers. Jason took in another deep breath, holding it until he heard his name called after a few minutes.

Straightening himself out, he picked up his cello and bow and walked on stage.
