Bajan let out a shaky breath, holding his hand tighter against his shoulder. He knew coming into the woods at night meant only danger, but he needed something that was drawing a blank in his mind. The footsteps were too quiet for him to detect, and the things were on him before he had a chance to react.

When the moon slipped out from the cloud, he checked his body in the pale light. His flannel was in shreds, showing bite marks covering his chest and arms. A bad one was on his shoulder, probably dislocated. Bajan felt like throwing up, but swallowed it down. He tried to stand, stumbling when his legs gave out from under him. There was another bad bite on his leg, flesh missing.

Bajan was too in shock to feel the pain setting in, he was too focused on getting out of the woods. To escape the beasts that attacked him.
