more like nostalgic news
ANOTHER THING THAT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS WEEK was a dinner convo I had with my little brother about school. After dinner I realized whoa I got a lot of school stories so I decided to share them with you (but they're super short but I got a lot of them so this chapter might be long)
PreK
In my small, quaint preschool at the local college, there was only one computer there for us to play on. Of course, the computers were super huge boxes. But man when someone got on to that computer and started playing (some sort of Lego racing game) everyone gathered around and cheered the player on it was hella lit
I also remember having this one book read to me. I don't remember the title or the author, but goodness was it creepy as shit. It was about a big black house with a big black box and in that big black box (yeah it was one of those annoying repetitive rhyme books) and so on. I don't remember what made it so creepy though. Maybe it was just the way it was written and the illustrations, or maybe it was what was in that big black box 😨
Kindergarten - 2nd grade
My school had this odd tradition of filthy pranking us around St. Patrick's Day. Apparently, the janitors would go into our classrooms while we were all at recess, and they'd trash the place (ironic considering what their job is xD). Of course, we little kids didn't know that, so when we came back from recess we all freaked out like OMG THE LEPRECHAUN TRASHED OUR CLASSROOM WE GOTTA SET UP TRAPS XDD
3rd - 5th grade
While I was in elementary school, we had a certain lunch routine. We'd get called up by table to go get our lunch, and then we'd get quality entertainment with quality food 👌👌👌 (note the sarcasm).
The quality entertainment being hand signs. We'd raise our hand to get called up to the front of the lunchroom and do a hand sign, and kids had to guess what the hand sign meant. I remember going up once to do one that meant "friends" (which I learned from watching Caillou thanks babe) as a wink to my best friend at the time
Lol I don't think he got it but it's fine I don't like him at all anymore :)
And then after all that we'd show a teacher our tray before throwing it out to get permission to have dessert (because of course you gotta finish your plate if you want desserts). The desserts were okay. I remember a couple options: fruit roll-ups (rolled up taffy I think¿¿ lol I dunno) and ice cream (the kind you get on a popsicle stick). I always got the strawberry shortcake-flavored ice cream because I love strawberries x3
Lol my brother doesn't get to have that quality lunch experience
My generation always seems to luck out
Did I ever talk about this?
No?
Ok, I'll write about it in a separate chapter
OMG DID I EVER TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT MY 5TH GRADE TEACHER THO
#1 FAVORITE TEACHER OF ALL TIME I LOVE HER SO MUCH
I got a lot to say about being in her class so Imma put that in another separate chapter
Y'all have a lot to look forward to xD
ANYWAY
6th - 8th grade
Middle school wasn't really fun until 8th grade. And y'all know how that goes amiright??? :D
But before more of that fun stuff Imma tell you guys about 6th grade because unlike 7th grade shit actually happened to me that I care about and that I consider as slightly significant to my life :)))
Since we're all spread out in middle school and no longer restrained to just one classroom with the same students, people spread out and friendships thinned ):
But I took the opportunity to meet new people (lol whatchu mean fam I'm shy af)
AND AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THAT WAS IN ENGLISH CLASS WHERE I BECAME PART OF A TRIO man I love being part of trios it's always so much fun
So yah now that I didn't get to see my elementary friends that often anymore I felt kind of out-of-place because I always saw everyone with their groups and I was just there like ._. I dunno what to do with life now.
All I had at that point really was just acquaintances. Pretty lame...
Then, in English, I got acquainted to two new people. I'll call them Farlan and Levi. Great inferring skills m8 yes I was the Isabel of that trio x3 and now that you know that much you can pretty much guess how that went yes? Yes.
It was nice to be friends with those two for the short time I had with them. Being the eldest child in my nuclear family and the baby of my generation in my extended family, I liked having onii-chan figures closer to my age like them because I could actually talk to them and be with them without feeling super awkward and disconnected because of a large age gap (also they were Asian which settled my homesickness).
Alright end of 6th grade
We're in 8th grade now
Remember the Skype chat I told you guys about in the last book? Yes remember that now because it's related to the story.
8th grade was when I got introduced to Kahoot. Whenever we played it in class, my nickname was always whatever my Skype name was at the time, to act as a secret nod towards the squad members who were in the class.
(Since I was in all of the honors classes in 8th grade, all of my classes were with the same people [did I ever tell you guys about that?]. Including these people was majority of the squad, with whom I never had classes with before until then [of course because they were in the honors classes longer than I was])
So whenever I entered my name into Kahoot and it popped up on the board, someone would always ask "Yo who's Asian Turtle (or whatever nickname I put in)?" and then squad peeps would turn to look at me like ha you think you slick nah fam we see you
Welp that's it for now! Next chapter will be about my 5th grade teacher which I mentioned earlier
