Telling Tala The Results

Chapter 74

Maui's POV

  30 minutes later...

We're outside of Tala's. I use one hand to settle Moana a bit and the other to knock on the door. She opens the door a minute later. "Maui, Moana, come right in." We enter her home with wide smiles on our faces. We haven't been able to stop smiling since we got the results. We know it seems creepy, but to be honest, we're too happy to care. "Tala, we're sorry to bother you, but we have some really exciting news and we wanted to share it with you first before the rest of the village finds out." "Maui, you and Moana never bother me. You both should know that by now. Anyways, is this about what I think it is?" I nod. "You must tell me this second!" She pats two empty spots on the couch for us to sit down. Moana sitting in the middle and me seeing on the opposite side of her.

Moana looks at me, her expression questioning who should break the news. I motion for her to do it. I mean it's only fair considering Tala is her grandmother. "Well we just came straight from the doctor. I had one of my usual weekly checkups, except this one was one of the most important ones, as you probably know." She nods. "Since it's the 20 week mark in my pregnancy, we were able to get the results of what gender child we're going to be having." Tala leans to the edge of her seat in anticipation. The sight humors me so I end up stifling a small laugh. Thankfully Moana doesn't notice because she's too busy breaking the news. "Gramma, we're having a baby girl." Tala claps her hands together and smiles giddily. "That's wonderful!" She hugs Moana before coming over to hug me. "I was secretly hoping you'd have a daughter. There's just something about little girls that melts your heart."

"It's funny you say that Tala. We literally had the same discussion not too long ago. Plus now that we know, we can start decorating the nursery and buying a few things, which will be quite the experience." Tala puts a hand up to stop me. "I know the two of you are busy people, which is why I'm more than happy to decorate the nursery." I kiss Tala on the cheek. "That's really generous Tala, but we don't want to put that entirely on you. I mean you can help, but we refuse you decorating it by yourself." "Well isn't that sweet Maui. I always knew you had a warm heart underneath that tough exterior." "Well you'd be one of the few to think that, but thank you."

Tala dashes off into the kitchen without another word. Moana and I get concerned and follow her into the kitchen. Our worry disappears when Tala places a bottle of fruit water on the table. "I would have pulled out some champagne, but I know that women can't drink alcohol when they're pregnant. Plus, it wouldn't have been fair if Maui and I could drink, but not you Moana." She gets three wine glasses and pours the fruit water into them. The fruit water contains strawberries, bananas, lemon, limes, and mangoes. Tala raises her glass, indicating that she's about to toast us. "Let us toast, to the upcoming birth of your daughter and my great granddaughter." Moana and I say "Cheers" in unison and we all clink our glasses together. It reminds me of the wedding reception. That was an amazing day and today matches that day for sure.
