"I don't think I want to debut," Taehyung says, and both Jimin and Hoseok turn to look at him.
Jimin's mouth is already open, an eager agreement ready on his lips, but in the end he stays quiet. He might be nodding vigorously on the inside, but if this is the only way they're going to be able to perform, then that's the end of discussion. Still, it doesn't mean Jimin can't feel a little bitter behind the eager rookie ready to debut facade.
"I mean," Taehyung continues, speaking to no one in particular as he keeps walking in circles of varying sizes. "Of course I want to debut, but why do we have to be the guinea pigs?"
Guinea pigs is definitely how the situation should be described. Big Hit Entertainment is going to debut the first ever half-human, half-vampire hip hop group. They are planning to make some incredibly good music and mountains of money, and of course show the uncertain Korean society that the undead can operate in perfect harmony with the living. It's a glorious plan, too glorious if you ask Jimin.
Hoseok is silent as well, which is always a concerning sign, but at the same time he can't seem to decide where to keep his legs. Jimin opens his mouth again, but in the end he just gets up and starts walking around in Taehyung's footsteps. He stays close enough to accidentally bump against Taehyun's back a couple of times when Taehyung's pace slows down.
Jimin notices Hoseok eyeing them, a weird half smile on his otherwise worried face. He grabs Taehyung's shoulder to make him stop for a second and beckons for Hoseok to get up.
When Namjoon opens the door, all three of them are walking in line with Taehyung leading the little train aimlessly around the room. They come to a halt when Namjoon lets out a small chuckle.
"So– um," he says and scratches the back of his head. He takes a couple of reluctant steps forward, until Jimin can see there are three people behind him.
Well, people would be putting it wrong. They're all tall, skinny enough to be described as gaunt, gravely pale and very much not human.
The first few minutes pass with the seven of them just staring at each other, each side measuring the other with their eyes. Then Namjoon, their peacemaker, clears his throat and takes a seat in one of the chairs, set conveniently in a circle in the middle of the room.
"The tallest and– um– the oldest is Kim Seokjin. Vocal. Min Yoongi's the one with the beanie. He would be the second oldest and one of the rappers, and Jeon Jungkook in the red coat is the vocalist, dancer and, well, maknae. Kind of," Namjoon explains, all the while staring pointedly first at the rest of them and then at the chairs. Acting like the wild card he is, Hoseok is suddenly wearing his brightest smile and dashes to take the seat on Namjoon's right.
Jimin hasn't managed half a thought, much less made progress in parking his ass down, but Taehyung subtly pulls him along and makes him sit safely between himself and Hoseok. Unfortunately, that also means he's face to face with the youngest vampire, the kind of maknae, who, Jimin realizes, would be filling in the exact same position in the band as Jimin himself.
The guy has unnaturally light eyes, in fact all of the vampires have, and Jimin feels like the gleaming irises are pulling him in. He doesn't want to stare, but the other option is a constant eye contact with his toes and he's too curious for that, too.
The thing is that Jimin has never met a vampire this close before, or at least met and been aware of the meeting. His high school back in Busan was a small one and there weren't any vampires enrolled and it's difficult to count the encounters with vampire waiters or accidentally bumping into one on the street. They don't feel different when you don't pay attention to them, but right now Jimin feels as if he's sitting in front of three corpses.
