You perk up at the sound of sirens. "They're here, guys. Get ready." Meredith, Callie, Jackson, and you slip on your gloves and watch as an ambulance rushes into the designated area. The back doors burst open and a cluster of EMTs begins to unload a gurney with a bloody, battered looking little girl.

"Alice Miller, nine years old, fell out of her tree house. Broke at least five bones," recites an EMT.

Callie nods along and grabs the side of the gurney. "Her shoulder's dislocated. Let's get her to the E.R. so we can set it back in place. Then we'll take care of the breaks." She wheels the gurney into the building and Jackson hurries alongside her, murmuring words of comfort to the sobbing little girl.

Another ambulance pulls into the carport and the doors swing open. You and Meredith rush forward and help the EMTs unload the gurney.

"Carlton Spencer," reports Craig, an EMT. "Sixty-three. Granddaughter fell from her tree house and on top of him." Craig wrinkles his nose. "With amazing precision. Karma's a-"

"Shut up, Craig," you say, smiling. To Meredith, you add, "Let's get him in for an X-ray and a CT. You think that covers it for now?"

Meredith purses her lips, then nods. "Yeah. I'll page Derek to come in for the CT, too."

You grin. "Thanks, Mer. Can you get him up there? I'll be with you in a second."

Again, Meredith nods and takes the cart away.

You turn to Craig. "Will I see you tonight?"

Craig grins and places his hands on your waist. "You bet. Fiancée."

You sigh happily. "I love the way that sounds." You stand on tiptoe so that you can peck Craig's cheek. "I've got to go. I'm looking forward to dinner."

Craig grins and walks backwards to the back of the ambulance. "Bye. Love you."

"Love you, too!" you call before running into the hospital building.

As the famous Derek Shepherd would say, it is a beautiful day to save lives.

Carlton Spencer was a lucky man and made it out of Seattle Grace without having a single surgery. Yay for him. Boring for you. You and Meredith were stuck with rounds. You tried to find the silver lining so you told yourself that you wouldn't be stuck in a surgery, so you wouldn't be late for your wedding planning with Craig.

You glance down at your clipboard. Dennison Duquette. 36. Congestive heart failure. A pang of sadness strikes your chest suddenly. This job was hard, but seeing the healthy, young ones who had a future ahead of them was the hardest.

You knock on the door to the hospital room.

"Come in!" calls a deep voice.

You twist the knob and enter the room. You lock eyes with Denny Duquette, whose jaw goes slack when he sees you.

"You're not my normal resident."

A blush dusts your cheeks. "I'm sorry, Mr. Duquette. I'm going to be on your service for today."

A playful smile crosses his face. "Ma'am, I wasn't complaining."

Your blush deepens and you smile. "I have a feeling that you're going to entertain me."

Denny furrows his brow in determination. "Then I'll make it my mission."

You laugh. "Have you had any pain this morning, Mr. Duquette?"
