~•Sometimes life is not enough and the road gets tough I don't know why•~ - Lana Del Rey
Katherine stood at the front door, taking a deep breath before knocking softly. She smoothed out her black dress and made sure her cardigan was crisp and clean. The front door opened to reveal Mrs. Parker, Bonnie's Mother.
"Hi Mrs. Parker." She said.
"Hello honey, come in, dear Bonnie is in the living room. She isn't holding up well." Mrs. Parker said, wiping a tear with a handkerchief.
Katherine stepped inside, seeing everyone else wearing black too and a photo of Clyde on the mantel. Katherine kept her head low and walked through the crowd to the living room where Bonnie sat on the couch, her head in her hands.
"Bonnie?" Katherine whispered, approaching her slowly and sitting down.
"Oh Katherine!" Bonnie cried quickly hugging onto her, the tears overflowing.
Katherine rest a hand on Bonnie's back and rubbed it softly in an effort to help calm her sobs.
"I'm so sorry." She whispered, a few tears of her own slipping out.
"He was too young. Why would they do that to him? You can't gun down someone so young!"
Actually you could but- but Katherine would never tell her that.
"It was gonna be a simple rob and the- the damn cop shot him! And the worst thing is, he left before I could say good-goodbye." Bonnie whispered softly at the end.
Katherine said nothing but hugged her best friend tightly against her and listened to her crying.
Suddenly Bonnie looked up at her.
"D-Do you think w-we could get out fo-for a bit? I could really use seeing the boys at the L-Lodging House."
"Of course." Katherine said, taking her hand and leading her to the door through all the people who threw a 'sorry' over their shoulders at them. They stopped at Mrs. Parker really quickly.
"Mom, I-I'm going out. For s-some fresh air." Bonnie said.
"Okay hon, we'll be here if you need us."
She gave Bonnie a hug and then Katherine one too.
"Thank you." She whispered in Katherine's ear.
Katherine just nodded softly before leading Bonnie out the door.
Bonnie and Katherine walked down the New York streets in silence, the wind whipping at their hair and dresses.
"We'll be there soon." Katherine said, breaking the silence slightly.
Bonnie just nodded. Katherine took her hand softly and kept hold as they walked, a small reminder that she'd always be there.
The two reached the Lodging House finally and Katherine stopped, pulling Bonnie back with her.
"Let me go tell the boys. I don't want them all wild around you."
"Okay. . ." Bonnie said as Katherine walked up the doors and stepped into the house. She shut the door behind her as the boys ran up to her.
"Katherine!" They said happily.
Katherine shushed them, returning the hugs they gave her.
"I brought Bonnie along today." She said.
"You did?!" Les asked excitedly.
"Yes but didn't you hear in the pape's?"
"It's our week off." Davey said.
