Pyrrha's death was said to be planned from the beginning as I heard with all the gossip but It may be unofficial.
Some may say It is also a part of Cinder's plan to make Pyrrha evil and help Cinder and the others defeat everyone in their way.

Pyrrha's death alludes to Achillies death as well, or at least how they crippled or were defeated. They both were shot on the heel and they collapsed too.
