"Xu Minghao has the ball! Oh, look at him run! Hold on. It looks like he's going for a slam dunk! He jumps... AND SCORES! Yet another win for Seventeen, ladies and gentlemen!"
Minghao held onto the net, smiling in victory. When he released the net, however...
"AAHHH!!!" A painful scream was heard. Apparently, Minghao hadn't angled his fall properly, ending up with a broken leg.
~
"Ugh," Minghao groaned, trying to open his eyes. When he did, all he saw was white. "Am I dead?" he muttered.
"No, you are still very much alive. That's good news. The bad news is that you will not be able to walk or do anything with your right leg for quite some time. It's a bone fracture, Minghao, a pretty bad one, too," his coach said.
Minghao tried to sit up, muttering inaudible curses in the process. He found the remote and adjusted his hospital bed so he could sit down properly. "But coach, I still want to play! You've got to--"
"No buts, Xu Minghao! Besides, you need to rest a bit. You've been working really hard and I suppose you deserve a break. Just relax for a bit," his coach sternly said. "Oh, by the way, Junhui's here." The coach left the room and Junhui came in.
"Hey buddy, what's up?" The duo high-fived each other before Junhui sat on the chair beside Minghao's bed.
"I feel extremely awful," came the younger male's reply.
Junhui looked at his friend sympathetically and patted his back. "Listen Minghao. I know that we're living together in that stinky old dorm, but my mom called last night and told me to come home for a while because she said that she missed me. So I decided to pack up and leave for, well, more or less a month."
"WHAT?! You can't just leave me alone! I have a broken leg! How am I supposed to take care of myself?" Minghao freaked out.
Junhui laughed while slapping his thighs. "That's why I called someone over to take care of you."
Minghao narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "Who is it? Don't tell me it's Seungkwan. He uses the bathroom for decades and I can't stand the sass radiating off of him (sorry boo)." He shivered at the thought.
Junhui shook his head. "Nope, not Seungkwan." And then he stood up. "She's outside."
"Oh she's outside... Wait, WHAT?! IT'S A SHE?! YOU SENT A GIRL TO LIVE WITH ME AND TAKE CARE OF ME?! Gege, you are officially insane. You hear me? I-N-S-A-N-E!" Minghao screamed.
Junhui rolled his eyes. "You know? You look like a girl while screaming like that. And I'm sorry, okay? She was the only one available at the moment. But don't worry, it's not some freaky geek or anything like that. You'll like her, I promise." He grinned like an idiot. Looking at clock on the wall, he said, "Hey, I have to go now."
"But--," Minghao started.
"No buts! Just shut up and," Junhui bent down, "enjoy your time with your crush, man," he whispered.
'My crush...?' Minghao thought. He was about to say something, but Junhui was already gone, and in his place, stood a beautiful and tall figure.
Minghao's crush.
He gulped. His heartbeat accelerated. Cold sweat started forming on his forehead and hands. 'Oh God, why is this happening right now? This is really embarrassing.'
"Minghao?" Y/N called. She was a pretty close friend of Junhui's, since she was how he and his girlfriend met. She was a sweet and caring girl, charming and very beautiful indeed. She was also a bright student in class, and teachers absolutely adore her. Not to mention the boys in her school. She was someone quite on the popular side of the student body, yet very humble and down-to-earth. Despite all the attention she was getting from literally almost every guy in her school, she had never dated anyone her entire lifetime.
Why did she agree on helping Junhui take care of Minghao, then?
Well, just because. Y/N just needed something to do to kill some time, since summer break was starting pretty soon and all her friends would be out of the country, and taking care of a person who had a broken leg sounded somewhat interesting to the girl.
"Uh, excuse me?" She waved her hand repeatedly in front of the basketball player's face, jerking him back to reality after day-dreaming about his crush. Which she didn't know about, of course.
Minghao shook his head, eyes widening like a puppy's. "Oh, sorry. I was, uh, well, distracted. Yeah, distracted," he mumbled more to himself that she had to strain her ear to listen to what he said. The Chinese boy felt his heart pounding loudly against his ribcage and he patted his chest in a failed attempt to calm the vital organ down. 'This is it,' he thought, 'I'm going to tell her I like her.'
All the while, Y/N had been staring at the boy with amusement dancing in her eyes. Apparently, Minghao hadn't realized that he had thought out loud. The girl felt very relieved, however, because she knew then that it wasn't unrequited love. 'He feels the same way.'
"Umm, Y/N-ah, I have something I—"
"I like you, too."
Minghao, who was shocked after being interrupted from his little speech, and more so from the words that were sprouted from the beautiful girl's mouth, sat still and unmoving on his hospital bed. When he finally managed to break out of his own trance, he stuttered, "W-what? H-how? W-why?"
Y/N chuckled and moved closer to sit on the chair beside the bed, before reaching a hand up to cup one of his slightly chubby cheeks. "I like you, too, stupid. How could you not realize you've been saying what's in your mind?"
Minghao's cheeks reddened. He cleared his throat, motioning her to come closer after. When she did, he quickly pecked her lips and looked away, embarrassed.
She touched her lips as a smile graced it. "Aww, Minghao-ah~," she cooed before hugging his neck and kissing his soft cheeks, while the injured athlete only smiled like the love-struck idiot he was.
"So you'll take care of me, my new girlfriend?"
Y/N grinned and nodded before a small frown suddenly adorned her features. "But, Minghao-ah...," she trailed off.
"Hmm?"
"How are you going to bathe?"
He became silent.
"I have completely no idea."
