[Ezio x Reader Fanfic] May the father of understanding guide us

5} The bridge

I have decided to upload 2 parts today because I missed a chapter a few days ago, so enjoy, :)

Your carriage pulls up outside the city limits of Firenze and as you get out you see a familiar face. The man in question has long, golden hair and kind, blue eyes. He is wearing black trousers and a white shirt. He leans against a nearby building with his arms folded against his chest and a sly smile playing on his lips.
"Ferdinand! It has been a long time old friend!" You smile and open your arms, he is quick to accept your hug. "I thought you left to do some training in Rome?"
"I did, my training is over now, (Y/N)" he smiles at you as you take in how much he has changed.
The last time you saw him, he was only 12 and he was being sent to Rome to train with his uncle to become a Templar. You can't believe just how handsome he is now.
"I'm sorry, but I can't stay and chat, I have a dinner to attend to." You notice how his smile falters.
"Yes, your father told me. That's why I'm here, he wants me to escort you there and back." Seeing the dread on your face he chuckled softly and shook his head, "I'm not coming in with you, don't worry. But I'll be outside, waiting and...watching."
"I appreciate the offer but it isn't necessary, the Auditores are no threat to me." You say with slight confidence in your abilities.
"All the same, I have been given my orders and I will follow them." He links his arm through yours and walks on.
The streets are relatively empty so you are grateful for the company. As you round the next corner, you hear shouting and cries of agony. Ferdinand puts his arm across you body as you start to move forwards to investigate. You might have argued had it not been for the venomous glare he shoots at you. He tells you to stay behind as he sneaks forward and towards the chaos.
I'm not just going to wait here for him! You think as you too make your way towards the noise.
You turn around one last corner and see before you a huge brawl. There must be at least 20 men fighting, you stand there and observe for a moment. Dread floods through you as you catch site of him in the middle of the fight.
Ezio.
You want to call his name but something grabs you from behind. A hand is over your mouth to muffle your screaming.
"I thought you were going to wait back there!" Ferdinand whispers into your ear, his breath makes you shiver as it tickles you. You begin to calm down as he lets you go.
"You never SAID anything! Besides, I'm not just going to do what you say!" You exclaim.
He looks at you disapprovingly abut doesn't argue.
"Well then let's just go, I'm sure your dinner buddies will be missing you!"
"No! That man in black in the middle," you point to Ezio,"he is the one who invited me! We need to help him!"
He looks to the fight and then to you.
"You are going to owe me so bad for this!" He says as he throws himself into the fight and soon all the attackers are either dealt with or have run away in fear. As soon as they are gone, Ferdinand raises a hand and you rush over. You look at Ezio's face and see that his lip has been cut open.
"Ezio! Your lip!" You reach out to touch his face but Ferdinand grabs your wrist.
"Don't, we will get your... friend to a doctor and then I will take you home." He says.
"No, I'm not a child anymore! I appreciate your help but I don't need it! Go home and let my father fawn over you!" You scream at him.
His face falls and he looks completely downhearted. He quickly regains composure and smiles at you.
"As you wish, (Y/N)" he says before turning on his heel and running to the nearest building and scaling it.
You sigh and turn back to Ezio, he too seems a little upset.
"Are you okay? That cut looks pretty deep, I know there is  a doctor nearby. Follow me." You turn and walk onwards, walking over the unconscious men lying on the bridge.
"Who was that back there?" He asks timidly
"That was Ferdinand, him and I were best friends growing up until he left to go to Rome to stay with his uncle." A hint of regret is audible in your voice.
Meanwhile, Ezio's face looked pained and sorrowful.

I hope you don't mind that I added Ferdinand to the story, I can definitely see some conflict between the two men pretty soon. In the next chapter, I'll aim to write more about you and Ezio so keep reading and goodnight :)
