Makayla P.O.V

It was a day like any other, scouting run to get more supplies around an area we've cleared out many times, not of supplies but of infected. But little did we know, today was the day things would go wrong. Though, I'm getting ahead of myself,let's start at the beginning.

I'm Makayla Julien, one of the part time scouts. I say part time since I help train recruits from time to time or help my brother Zane in whatever he needs. Now on to the story, I was having my robotic arm checked out again to make sure there was no issues. It was a normal routinely thing right before we head out to gather materials, food & whatever the camp needed so nothing too big.

My brother was quick with it since we needed to head out soon so one of the machines the doctors were using to hopefully find a cure for the infection needed repaired. The area marked on today's map was an area I've personally helped rid the infected & we needed the parts from a machine one of the now abandoned stores had.

"Alright, you're arm is all set, nothing wrong but I did oil up the joints to test if it'll increase your strike speed if you run into any infected out there. But still be careful sis" Zane said calmly as he handed Pixal the tools to put away

"Yeah I know, only this arm immune & we have people here counting on this mission going successfully. Don't worry Zane, I'll be fine" I said while hoping off the table I sat on

"Your brother has a right to be worried, it's been awhile since anyone has been in that area. I know the building may have been boarded up so the scouts can use it as a hideout from time to time on the scouting missions but you still need to keep up your guard" Pixal said without looking over from the tool box she was at

"I promise, we'll be careful & keep up our guard. We just need in that building anyways, since the only other thing we're getting is something one of the other camps stashed in there for us to have here, it'll be a quick in & out misson, an hour tops" I said as I headed out the door

"Remember, if things go wrong you have that panic button I installed in your arm" I could hear my brother shout as I went to join the other scouts

"Hey, Ive packed your bag with a bit extra supplies. I know you may not need them but you should be careful" Samantha said as she passed it to me, she's one of the doctors researching on how to make a cure & helping care for anyone who needs it

"Not you too, I promise everything will be fine Samantha but thank you for the packing my bag for me" I said while taking it from her. I felt around & grabbed my mask out from the side. I still couldn't believe I was reusing the same mask back from when I was corrupted & turned evil by a stupid brooch I was gifted

"Of course in gonna get worried about one of my best friends going out on a scouting run, I don't want anything happening to you. I'm already worried enough taking care of my brother who I barely convinced to take a nap" she said before giving me a quick hug

"Sometimes I really wished I was immune like you Sam, but I'm not. But at least I can still help, now I have to go. When Lloyds awake again tell him I say hi & can you see if he'll finally read that comic I snagged for him the last scouting run I actually went on, thanks" I said before running off to join the others.

We had a quick briefing on what to expect, a run down on the plan & a reminder for what we're looking for. Oh, & a safety briefing incase someone was hurt by an infected. I put on my mask, grabbed my weapon & we headed out along the usual path.
