"Hello, Emilia. I'm your Daddy, yes I am. Oh look at those pretty eyes. My beautiful little bird," Harry cooed down to the two day old laying protected on his chest. You walked slowly into the living room from where they were cuddled on the sofa. You sat down beside him, letting your head drop down to his shoulder and taking your hand to run a couple of fingers up and down your newborn daughters back. "How are you feeling?" Harry asked and you nodded tiredly against his shoulder.
You daughters eyes closed slowly and her face squished against her father's chest making you chuckle lightly. "She's beautiful," you whispered and Harry laid his head on top of yours.
"She is. We made her, baby," you smiled at Harry's words and Harry rubbed gentle circles on her back as she smacked her lips together. "I'm so tired," Harry whispered, scared of waking the tiny girl on his chest up.
"Me too. Why don't we go up to bed?" He nodded and you stood. Harry stood after you holding your daughter before you both made your way upstairs, Harry placing the small girl into her bassinet for the first time.
"It's so weird to have her home," you whispered and he smiled down at the bassinet, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. "It's so weird not to have the bump," he added and you smiled.
"God, I love you," you whispered up to your husband and Harry smiled down to you.
"And I love you," he replied before you both climbed into bed. You both faced each other and Harry placed a hand onto your cheek. He moved his face in and after a couple seconds your lips touched. You deepened the kiss and Harry moaned making you smirk. "Hey, we can't," he said as he pulled away. You nodded.
"I know. It's just been so long," you said and he nodded.
"But it's only been two days, my love. Six weeks at least the doctor said," you nodded and Harry pulled you into him, and wrapped his arms around you. "Get some sleep, baby."
---
You felt like you had been sleeping only 10 minutes when a wailing woke you up. You opened your eyes and noticed Harry was still sleeping so you slipped out of bed and lifted the still swaddled baby up, cradling her to your chest.
"Hi baby. What's wrong, my love, huh? Are you hungry?" You asked and moved to sit on the armchair you had in the corner of the room and lifted your shirt up, you undone your maternity bra trying to get the wailing baby to latch on to fill her belly up and soothe her back to sleep.
She refused to latch on to your nipple and continued to wail. You noticed Harry stir in bed and you cradled the small girl to your chest hoping your scent would calm her. "Babe?" Harry's raspy voice called out and you sniffled to try and get rid of your tears. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked as he sat up and climbed out of bed noticing a few tears roll down your cheeks.
"She won't stop crying. She doesn't need changed and she won't latch on to me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong," you sniffled out, tears streaming down your cheeks.
"Baby, come on don't cry. She's still getting used to these things. Please don't cry, just try and feed her again, ok?" You nodded and Harry sat on the arm of the chair.
You tried to feed her once again but she wriggled her face away. You kept trying until she finally tried to latch but couldn't quite grasp it. You tried holding her differently until she finally grasped on and started to suckle, finally quietening down.
"I love you, Little Bird," Harry whispered to the small girl in your arms and you smiled up at him. He wiped the tears off of your cheeks. "And I love you, the best mummy in the whole wide world," he smiled at you, pressing a kiss to your lips.
"Thank you," you whispered and stared back down at the tiny girl cuddled against your chest. "I can't believe she's here. She's actually here in my arms. Our daughter, our little girl. She's here," you said, gobsmacked.
"I know, I can't believe we're going to be waking up every 3 hours to her crying. It's just so crazy that 9 months ago we found out we'd be parents and now we are. It went by so quick, but I wouldn't change anything for the world. I've got my two favourite girls and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you both and any other kids we may have," Harry said gently. The small girl stopped suckling and you looked down to notice her eyes had fallen shut.
"She's sleeping again. Should we changer her diaper?" Harry shook his head, if it doesn't need changed don't do it. We only put that on her before we went to bed. She'll be ok until she wakes us up again," he chuckled.
You placed her back into the bassinet and leaned down to kiss her downy cheek. "I love you, Pretty Eyes," You said and the small girl smacked her lips together as if in response. "Yes, I love you," you cooed and she let a small smile appear on her lips before snuggling down into her blanket.
---
"This is going to be hard, isn't it?" You asked Harry as you got up to tend to your crying daughter only an hour and a half after feeding her.
"It is but we'll get used to it, and she won't need up to feed her and change her diaper her whole life. She'll grow up and we'll wish for these days back when she depended on us and we were sleep deprived and still learning how to care and fulfil all of a babies needs, we're going to be fine, my love. We're still learning. But by the time we have all of our kids, we'll be pros," he joked.
"I think I'm happy with one right now," you whispered as Harry held his hands out to take your two day old daughter from your arms.
"Me too. Get some sleep, my love. You've had a long couple of days. I'll change my Little Bird's diaper," he said as he rocked her gently to get her to calm down.
"Thank you," you answered climbing back into bed.
"Are we going to change your diaper, Little Bird? Yes we are. Your Mummy and I are still learning things but we're going to get used to this, we promise. We love you, Baby Girl," you smiled at your husbands baby talk, and that's how you fell asleep. He was right, you were learning, but all new mothers and fathers did. And you couldn't imagine doing it with anyone else. Harry was your rock, and you wouldn't change anything for the world.
