For years in the town of Lancaster, many whisper about one of the founding families that lives in secret within the mysterious mansion of Fordyce Hill. Some believe them to be devils, some say ghosts, and others don't think the manor is inhabited at all. Whatever it may be, no one has looked upon their faces, but that all changes one day when Delphine accidentally gets caught by one of them when trying to retrieve an elegant black calla lily that had only grown in their gardens. She manages to escape and gets home safely, but in two days time, her father has announced a betrothal for Delphine. The man who wants her hand is no other than Cyrus Violl, the only resident in Violl Manor in Fordyce Hill. Delphine wants none of it, who would want to live in a place so dreary that even the crows would not dare step foot in it? She wanted to protest, but Cyrus provided a good income to help her family's struggling times. So with a heavy heart, she does not object to her father's wishes. She soon comes to regret it as her world is turned upside down when Cyrus turns out to be a fearful beast disguised as an alluring man, pulling her into a place filled with beautiful monsters such as him.
