As far as any kind of engagement parties go, Mia D'Amore has completely out done herself. It had been a surprise, Oscar knowing already but I had been clueless. The country club has been packed with flowers, white and pink roses. Candles that gives off a soft sweet smell.
The cake stands at the center of table, beautiful and proud. Glasses of champagne have been poured and are being handed out by the staff. Ladies in designer dresses and men in perfectly tailored suites have gathered in. Welcoming and congratulating Oscar and I on our engagement. Things are classy and elegant. Most definitely a D'Amore event.
The room is humming with chatter. Good cheer and well wishes from everyone I pass. Mayor Sutton and his sweet daughter Kaylee stop by our table to say hello. Kaylee is doing well, healing still, but definitely on her way to becoming a strong kind young woman. I couldn't be happier for her and I feel a little pride creep in, knowing that I had a hand in helping her become who she is now.
Maggie is totally in her element. She loves big events like this. The joy between her and Seth is practically beaming off of them. Off to the side, Mawmaw chases after Axon and Sarahbeth. Milo and John D'Amore have flown in for the event but only plan on staying for a night or two. Even Samuel and Genevieve have come down to join us.
It seems everyone is happy for us, expect all the fan girls Oscar is leaving behind. The thought makes me grin. They gave it their best shot and failed. I can see right through them now. They won't be coming between us again. I reach over to take Oscar's hand. I'll never let anyone take him from me again. Too bad girls, you lose.
This is my life.
My fairytale.
With my dark prince beside me, nothing can bring us down.
Suddenly, Oscar lifts my hand, kissing the back of knuckles. Making my heart warm with unconditional love.
An immeasurable amount of happiness washes over me. Looking around at the people in this room, the man beside me, and the future ahead, I don't see how things could get any better.
I started out alone. With only a half ass adoptive family, who really didn't care about me. And now... I am a part of this amazing family. I realize now that neither Oscar or myself would be here at all if they hadn't chosen us. Lex and Mia chose to take in Oscar as their own. Oscar chose me to be his wife and his family welcomed me in with open arms. I can't recall ever hearing of anyone ever being so lucky. Well...maybe Cinderella.

Ding, ding, ding.

Lex gains everyone's attention by tapping a butter knife on his champagne glass. The room quietens down. All eyes now on the handsomely tattooed leader. Mia joins him. Standing by his side, the queen of his heart.

"I'd like to make a toast," Lex begins. "Many of you have watched as Oscar has grown up. He's literally become a man right before our eyes. He's always been brave, strong, and sometimes a little too independent." A soft laughter rushes through the room. "And though he's had just about anything a young man could hope for, I've never seen him as happy as he is with you, Arabella Green. You've brought out the best in him. I think he's brought out the best in you too." Tears begin to fill my ears. "Mia and I couldn't be anymore pleased to have you join our family. Over the last two years, we've come to love you as a daughter. Congratulations to the both of you."

A boom of cheers explodes in the room as Lex raises his glass before taking a sip. I brush away the tear that falls to my cheek before taking a sip myself. Alex D'Amore has just touched my heart with his words. And my eyes meet his from across the room, he sends me a wink of approval. While Mia sends me a small grin. They love me.
I have people in my life that love me.
These people would never hurt me or betray me. It's a wonderful feeling, knowing that you have a supportive army of family behind you. It makes you feel powerful, safe. Unstoppable really. It's unreal. How is this my life? When did I get here?

"You alright," Oscar leans down to ask in his deep sexy voice.

I nod, giving a small smile. "Yeah. This is wonderful. All of it. It's just so sweet. And I can't believe this my life," I laugh to hide my emotions.
