Kabanata 58: One Way

"Kapapasok lamang po ng balita, muli nang nahuli ang binatang dumukot sa herederang si Shekainah Ilyssa Scott sa isang beach resort. Kinilala itong si Xander Mendoza na---"

Nanlaki ang mga mata ko sa narinig at lumabas mula sa toilet nang marinig ko ang balita. I let it open so it would break the defeaning silence that filled the isolated romo where I am. I stopped when I saw who is someone in the couch who suddenly turned the television off. I gave her my deadly glare but I received an empty expression. 

I was about to talk but she did it first.

"Act like you did not hear or saw neither know anything, Kai. Don't do ridiculous things. Huwag kang kikilos ng hindi sigurado." aniya bago tumayo at tinahak ang pinto.

She was about to open the door but I gave her my insulting laugh that made her stop and turn to me. I am now facing to the fearless, Yvonne. No. The fearless twin sister of mine... the most evil

"Who are you to tell me what to do?"

" I am your sister"

" My sister died already. Who are you again? "

Ipinikit niya ang kanyang mga mata ng mariin bago muling imulat at tiningnan ako ng matalim. 

"Just... Listen to me"

Tinaasan ko siya ng kilay. "If you want me to listen to you then, get me out of here!"

Matapang ko siyang tinitigan at hindi inalis ang titig sa kanya. Tahimik niya akong pinagmamasdan bago ibuka ang bibig niya.

"I want to but I–"

"You want to? Oh don't fool me. Yeah right, ano bang ie-expect ko sayo? Your so heartless I–"

Natigil ako ng mag-salita siya.

"You can't die here."

Napa-awang ang bibig ko sa sinabi niya. Anong die? Ako mamamatay? What?!

Nagsimula siyang maglakad papuntang pintuan.

"Stay here and don't do anything stupid. Whatever you do, you'll get caught. Just don't" aniya sabay pihit ng pinto at lumabas na.

Once again, I found myself dumbfounded at this isolated room all alone. Napasapo nalang ako sa aking noo at umupo sa hamba ng kama. I look at the clock inside this room.

Hindi ko napansin ang oras. It's already 10:40 pm. Nasisiguro kong madilim na sa labas at may mga nakabantay pero hindi gaanong marami dahil ang nasa paligid ko ay tagong tago ni anino'y di makikita.

I wonder if my Mom is looking for me? The last time I know, my mother and I had an arguement that made me leave that sickening mansion where we leave. I even leave my brother from what happened.

My life is full of hell. In terms of favoritism, I never win. My father is favor with my Brother while my mother is very favor with my sister way back when we are still a kid but when Yvonne was gone, she was replaced by kuya. They are all fond of my siblings while here I am being alone.

I wonder how does it feel to be someones favorite? How does it feel to be someone's priority?

Since then, I never felt loved or it was just me who thinks I never felt it? Because all along, all I have is my friends and my brother who is always there whenever I needed him. In my darkest nights, in my heavy doubts... He was there. Patiently waiting for me to open up to him. He never force me to do things.

I also wonder how's Xander? They accused them of wrong doings. He did not even force me, I let myself come to him.

Napapikit ako ng mariin. Isang oras ang lumipas bago ko napagpasyahan na gumawa ng paraan para makatakas.
