Tagging. Both types. Wait, there are two types?!
Yes, but first: I know I haven’t updated The Help Book in a while but I’m making a series of chapters, dedicated to the new wattpad profiles so expect more regular uploads. And if you are looking for writing tips in general, and not just on how wattpad works, follow me on tumblr: http://catmint5.tumblr.com/ I’ll add another link in the comments where you can also find two links to short video tutorials I made on the topic of tagging.
Now back on track. Tagging. Why did I say there are two types?
One way to tag is to TAG A PERSON, another – to ADD TAGS WHICH DESCRIBE YOUR STORY and thus make it easier for more readers to find it. I’ll tell you how to do both.
First, HOW TO TAG PEOPLE. It’s the same for PC and wattpad app users.
Just put @ before the user name of the person you want to tag WITHOUT space between @ and the user name; also, make sure you write the full user name, small/capital letters and numbers included.
My name is CatMint5 so the correct way to tag me would be @CatMint5.
WRONG: @ CatMint5 (with space between @ and my user name)
WRONG: @CatMint (without the 5)
Note: A person will only get notified you tagged them if you do it in the comments or on someone’s profile/message board; people don’t get notifications if you do it in the chapter itself (for example, in an A/N).
Now, HOW TO ADD TAGS WHICH DESCRIBE YOUR STORY?
First off, do you know what to write as tag? It should be a word or words that describe your story. If you are writing a fantasy book about witches, you can write “witch” and “magic” as tags; if you are writing a romance story about two people who meet during the summer, you can write “love”, “summer” and “boyxgirl” (or “girlxgirl” or “boyxboy”).
There are two ways to do add tags that describe your story with your PC and with both you can add up to twenty tags.
First way:
1. Go to Works.
2. Click on the story you want to add tags to.
3. Click on “Edit Story” (orange button with a pencil in front of “Edit Story”, on top of your summary).
4. Scroll down to where it says “+ Add a tag” (under the summary and over “Category”).
5. Click “+ Add a tag”.
6. Write the words that describe your story and will serve as tags. You can have up to twenty tags per story. If you put space between two words, they will show up as two separate tags. If you want to write the popular “bad boy”, you should type it as “badboy” or it would appear as two tags – “bad” and “boy”.
7. Once done, click on “Save Changes” (orange button at the top).
Second way on PC:
1. Go to a random chapter of your story. It really doesn’t matter which, because tags apply to the whole story, not just one chapter.
2. Under the cover, there’s a genre (in grey) and “+ tags” (in orange).
3. Click “+ tags” and add the tags from there.
4. Once you write all the tags you want (you don’t have to go for twenty, it could be less, it could be zero), push the Enter key on your keyboard.
Adding tags with the wattpad app:
1. Go to “Create”.
2. Click on the story you want to add tags to.
3. Click on an icon the top right of your screen, which looks like three small squares on top on each other.
4. Click on “Story Settings”.
5. Under “Tags”, there is an “Add”; click it.
6. Write the tags you need then click on “Add” to save them or “Cancel” to delete them.
By the way, through the app you can only post FIVE tags; I don’t know why.
DO YOU NEED FEEDBACK ON YOUR WORK? OR MAYBE YOU NEED HELP ADVERTIZING IT? Then enter my one-shot/short story contest. The due date is January 15, 2015.
