Nobody

There was an old alcoholic man. Every morning, he would visit the local bar to order drinks. He would come out when it closes. Then, he would stumble back home to sleep.

One dark stormy night, the old man decided to take a shortcut through an abandoned walkway. Suddenly, the wind threw a tile off a roof as he was walking by.  It smashed on his head and crashed into pieces. Knocked to the ground, he struggled up to his feet and clutched his aching head.

"Who did that?" he hoarsely bellowed.

The wind whistled, and the man thought he heard a faint whisper.

"Nobody."

He turned around quickly, but nobody was there.

Nobody replied.

The old man continued down the path and checked his surroundings carefully. It was pitch black, and the only sound came from the man's footsteps rustling forward. Immediately, shadows flickered behind him.

"Who's there?" he questioned furiously.

Nobody answered.

Through the wind and rain, he felt a presence. Slowly, the sound of heavy breathing crept closer and closer.... Now running with his heart beating fast, he yelled, "Get away! Don't come near me!"

He looked down and found a piece of wood lying on a pile of leaves; it was heavy and had a long nail sticking out - a perfect weapon. He started swinging it back and forth, hoping whatever is attacking him will leave.

Lashing at the darkness, he accidentally swung the piece of wood too hard and hit himself right at his forehead. There, the old man stood frozen with a nail lodged into his brain. He was dead.

The next day, two policemen were patrolling around the area, and they discovered a dead man lying in the middle of the path.

"Who would've killed him?" asked one of the policemen.

The wind whispered, "Nobody."
