The day she lost Peter Parker was the day she lost everything.
She tried to stay strong, she really did. But it wasn't the feeling of him being gone that took its toll on her, it was watching him go down that downhill slope for days.It started with Scorpion and his stupid poison. The pair of heroes were having a seemingly normal day, as normal as it can get when you have spider powers. They stopped a robbery, a drug deal, and two assaults.
At 10:45 PM, on May 28th, Scorpion broke into Oscorp Tower. Spider-Man and Spider-Girl rushed to the scene, arriving almost too late. Scorpion was already inside, trashing lab after lab in search of one thing: an antidote.
Norman Osborne has been trying to reverse Spider-Man's powers for years. After all, it was his fault he even existed. The spider was made in his lab, during his tour. Without him, Spider-Man and Spider-Girl would be nonexistent.
Scorpion ransacked every lab, attempting to find the mysterious serum he so desperately hoped for. He finally found it amongst a pile of old files and chemical compounds, the glowing green liquid bringing a hideous smile to his face.
At 11:20 PM, the two heroes arrived at the tower. By the time they arrived, they believed Scorpion would have gone far away from the crime scene. But Scorpion was a predator, and he'd laid his trap.
The two entered the building, following the trail of debris through the lab. Windows were broken, doors were busted through, and papers and glass vials layed scattered on the floor. The hallway was dark, lights flickering on and off. Something skittered in the corner as they got closer. When they entered Osborne's private lab, they couldn't see anything. The room was dark, only illuminated by a few glowing pieces of equipment. They switched on their night vision, making silent signals to each other. They moved around the room slowly, quietly, carefully.
Normally, spiders trap others in their webs. It's rare a spider gets snared in it own trap. Almost impossible.
But these spiders had spun too large of a web to get out of.
Before the pair knew, the villain lunged from the corner of the dark room. The sharp end of his mechanical stinger plunged into Spider-Man's body, the green ooze of the antidote dripping from the gash. The two heroes struggled to catch the monster, but the darkness proved for effective cover for the predatorial villain. At 11:45, exactly one hour after the break in began, Spider-Man collapsed on the 75th floor of Oscorp Tower.
The antidote had seeped into his blood stream, mixing with the radioactivity to cause a cocktail of toxic and deadly chemicals inside Peter's body.
When (Y/N) peeled the mask off his face, she almost collapsed in terror.
Hair was stuck to his face from sweat, all color drained from his features. His brown eyes were dull, breath leaving his lips in frantic gasps. She held him close to her, his head in her lap as she called the only person that she thought could fix this.
"Tony? Tony please answer me." She spoke with a wavering voice, panic lacing through her veins.
"(Y/N)? What's wrong?"
"I-it's Peter. Somethings wrong. I don't know what happened, I think Scorpion injected him with something. Please, I don't know what to do." Tears streamed down her face at this point, her arm reaching up to remove the mask covering her face. She looked down at the sick boy, her heart skipping a beat. She pushed the hair from his face, holding him close to her.
"Your gonna be okay, Pete. Tony's on his way, and he's gonna fix this. He'll fix this." She continued to hold him until Tony arrived, immediately scooping the boy up in his arms. The two frantically raced to Avengers Tower, not wasting one moment of the little time they had.
Tony rushed Peter to the infirmary, setting him down on the table as he connected the wires to his body. He began to shake violently, his breathing picking up as his heart rate continued to climb.
Her eyes stayed glued to his body, feeling useless as there was nothing she could do. She watched as the monitors beeped, the sounds pounding in her ears louder than a million trumpets. She collapsed to the ground, holding the sides of her head to stop the horrible sound of banging and ringing. It took Natasha dragging her out of the room for her to finally come to her senses. At 12:00 AM, Peter was finally stabilized. Tony came out of the room with a look of worry on his face, making (Y/N) even more anxious.
"The venom Scorpion injected into him is cancelling out his powers. He can't heal himself or fight the infection. The mix of chemicals and radioactivity are completely tearing away at his immune system." All she did was nod. She didn't stand up, she didn't look at him, she didn't move. All she did was nod.
At 12:15, she was finally allowed to enter the room and see him. When she saw him lying there on that table, she almost dropped to her knees and screamed. He looked...dead.
His pale skin was shimmering with beads of sweat, eyes closed and body still. His breathing was almost nonexistent, the beeping of the monitor the only indication of any life still inside of him. She sat next to the table in a small chair, grabbing his hand as tears rolled down her face.
"They don't think you're gonna make it." She wiped away the tears with her hand. "But you have to hold on for me, long enough to make it through this. You have to stay with me Pete. Please." She begged and prayed, her eyes closing as tears ran down her face. Two days later things were looking better. His vitals evened out, color returned to his face, and his breathing was steady. They all thought he'd wake up any minute, that he'd done the impossible.
But sometimes the impossible is just impossible, and miracles don't exist.
At 3:04 pm, on June 1st, Peter Parker crashed. His vitals dropped, his heart rate becoming too fast for his body. His lungs heaved for air, sweat heading down every part of his body, his muscles tightened as he shook and convulsed, squirming in pure pain and agony. And yet again, all she could do was watch.
Hours. They struggled to keep him alive for hours. She stayed with him while they did, holding his hand and crying as they struggled to save his life.At exactly 11:47, June 2nd, Peter Parker flatlined. The constant sound of the monitor rang through the echoing room, sending (Y/N) into shock. She dropped to her knees, everything seeming to be in slow motion. Her mind went blank, knees hitting the ground painfully hard. She screamed. Loud enough that the sound travelled far beyond the hall outside of the hospital room. Her screaming didn't stop until Tony picked her up, wrapping his arms around her as he moved her out of the room. She kicked and screamed as the door to his room slammed shut.
Peter's funeral happened 3 days later. She almost didn't go, but she had to see him one last time.
As she stared down at his body in the casket, she cried. He was wearing a beautiful black suit, his Spider-Man suit underneath his unbuttoned white shirt. His hair was perfectly made up, eyes closed and peaceful. Had she not know any better, she'd think he was just sleeping.
She cried again as they lowered him down into the grave. She couldn't believe it was real, the whole thing seeming like a nightmare. Nobody dared say they understood what she felt; Tony lost what felt like a son to him, May lost a nephew, but she lost her best friend, her partner, and the only person she ever really loved.
She told him that everyday. She went back to the graveyard and told him she loved him everyday, just to make sure he knew. When Scorpion surfaced again after the news of Spider-Man's death was announced, (Y/N) was prepared. She'd spun her own web, this time assuring herself she wouldn't get trapped in it.
She lied in the shadows of the water treatment plant, waiting for Scorpion to show his ugly face. She smiled when the villain crawled through the vent in the ceiling.
A perfect trap.
The villain immediately fell into a tangled mess of webs and traps, sticking to the wall with a grunt. (Y/N) jumped down from her perch, approaching the beast she so strongly despised.
"You took everything from me. Not only did you take away the only person I ever cared about, you took away my reason for being alive. You took more than just a life. And now, I'm going to take yours." She pulled the mask off her face, tears streaming down in tracks. "I want my face to be the last thing you see before you die." She tightened the webs around his neck, watching as he struggled to breathe. Her eyes didn't falter and neither did her grip. When the light finally drained from his eyes she let go, collapsing to the ground with a thud."What have I done?"
This is really late, kinda shitty, and also super sad because why the fuck not. I figured it'd be kinda cool anti-hero origin story of a hero's loss of morals or some shit like that.
Anyway I hope y'all enjoyed it. Thanks for reading. ✌🏻
Peace.
