Animal Youkai

All animal youkai (that is, youkai that are long-lived animals or are not humanoid in Japanese mythology) have an animal form that they can turn into.

Chen has a cat form and Ran has a fox form. (Both are pictured above.) Chen's cat form is a tuxedo cat, whereas Ran's fox form is yellow with white tips on her tails. Chen often curls up in Yukari's lap in her cat form, and Ran lays down at her feet in her fox form.

Wriggle has a firefly form. Species-wise, she's a genji-botaru firefly (Luciola cruciata). Fireflies of the Luciola genus are native to Japan, and both males and females of the species have wings. In her firefly form, she just looks like any other firefly, except she's a little bigger.

Mystia has a night sparrow form. Like with Wriggle, she looks like any other night sparrow.

Tewi has a hare form. Species-wise, she's a mountain hare (Lepus timidus). Her hare form is solid white. She often uses this form to communicate with the rabbits and hares on Earth; they appreciate a leader who looks more like them.

Reisen (and all other Moon Rabbits) have rabbit forms. They all have a white face and white ears, but the color of the rest of their body varies. Seiran is solid white, Reisen's body is grey, and Ringo's body is golden yellow. Reisen uses her rabbit form to sit in Kaguya's lap when Kaguya is watching TV, using the computer, or otherwise sitting around. She sits in Eirin's lap, too, but Eirin is usually busy making medicine, so she doesn't sit around as much as Kaguya does.

Iku has an oarfish form. She essentially looks like any other oarfish. She doesn't use her oarfish form much, on account of, you know, NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE AIR as a fish.

Yamame has a tsuchigumo (earth spider) form. It looks just like any other tsuchigumo- a giant spider.

Orin has a cat form. She's mostly black with a red-orange flame pattern on her belly. She loves curling up in Satori's lap while in this form and doing other such cat things.

Utsuho has a raven form. She basically looks like any other raven. She likes to perch on Satori's head in this form.

Nazrin has a mouse form. She's a solid grey mouse. She uses this form to fit into little nooks and crannies and find more treasure.

Kyouko has a yamabiko form. She looks like any other yamabiko in this form, looking like a cross between a dog and a monkey.

Mamizou has a tanuki form. She looks like any other tanuki in this form. She much prefers her tanuki form to her humanoid form, and she's usually in her tanuki form when she's not fighting.

Doremy has a baku form. She looks like any other baku, having the head of an elephant, the tail of an ox, and the legs of a tiger.

Aunn has a komainu form. It looks like any other komainu- like a dog with a lion's mane and prominent fangs- but green. She lets Reimu walk her, pet her, and play fetch with her in this form.

Urumi has an ushi-oni form. It looks like any other ushi-oni- a creature with the head of a cow and a spider-like body. She doesn't like to use this form, as it scares the fish she tends to.

Yachie has a Jidaio form. It looks like any other jidaio- a dragon-turtle hybrid.

Saki has a kurokoma form. It looks like any other kurokoma- a winged black horse. She has used this form to trample all over her enemies.

Mike has a cat form. It's a fairly standard-looking calico cat. She often wanders up to passerby in this form and rubs up against their legs, trying to get them to pet her.

Tsukasa has a kuda-gitsune form. It looks like any other kuda-gitsune- a small, slender fox that can fit in pipes- but it's the same light brown color as her hair. When she's in this form, she often crawls into Megumu's arms or lap, and Megumu pets her.

Momoyo has an oomukade form. It looks like any other oomukade- a giant centipede. She uses this form primarily for intimidating and eating her prey.
