The Wyvern and you became very close over the course of your stay. Instead of killing you he merely became your friend. Your only friend.
He would tell you stories of the many many years he had lived. He told you of his people. The many different kinds of drakes and dragons that roamed the earth. He was a fire Wyvern.
"Do you have a name?" You finally asked after a couple of days. You couldn't just call him "hey" or "you."
The Wyvern looked puzzled at this.
"I have no name, I've never really needed one. What would you call me?" You raised your eyebrow in surprise.
"You would like me to name you? This seems a little too important for someone like me."
"You're a princess, how much more important can a person get?" He chuckled deeply. His deep tenor voice vibrated the cave.
"Um, ok, how about....Keryg? It's a humble name where I come from." Keryg closed his crimson eyes in thought.
"Keryg." He said, tasting the name on his tongue. Saying it over and over again as if he might forget it.
"Keryg is suitable. Thank you, Lady Y/ N." He lowered his elongated neck and head to the ground in a sort of bow. You giggled and curtsied in return.
"Why, you are most certainly welcome, Lord Keryg. Ruler of the hill on the outskirts of a frail kingdom." You said in a mock sophisticated tone.
Keryg laughed at this. Growing more and more attached to you with each passing day. Eventually, the hot summer night air became chilled. You needed warmth from the upcoming elements. Keryg happily snuggled with you to keep you warm. He was like a living furnace with the fire resting inside of him.
You woke one day feeling differently towards your new scaly friend. A rather, *ahem*, risque dream had you feeling strange feelings towards Keryg. You missed him when he flew out of the cave to find food for you and him, and you felt a glorious burden being lifted from your chest when he returned home.
"Is this love? Or just a desperate attempt at it?" You would ponder to yourself aimlessly.
"Surely a great Wyvern such as himself wouldn't care about me in such a way." You thought sadly. Your e/c eyes brimmed with tears. The sound of flapping wings greeted your ears and stopped the tears from flowing.
Keryg clambered back into the cave with something clamped in his mighty jaws. It wasn't food, it was something much smaller. He opened his jaws and laid a bunch of wildflowers down at your feet.
Gorgeous foxgloves, daisies, ruby snapdragons, dandelions, and wild primroses made up the beautiful bouquet.
"I do hope you appreciate that. It was quite the pain in the ass to gather those." He huffed out.
You definitely felt tears falling down your face now. They were tears of happiness though. Tears that really told you how you felt.
"Keryg.. I-I feel things for you. Things that are forbidden between Wyverns and humans..."
"I feel the same way, my love." Keryg said softly. His melodic voice was soothing to your ears.
"You do? I-I'm relieved and all, but this is crazy!" Keryg stepped closer to you, his snout inches from your face.
"It always is with love." He pressed his mouth into yours. Of course it was a very chaste kiss, one that didn't envelop your entire face. You gasped in surprise, but soon you had wrapped your arms around his head and caressed his horns.
"So this is how happily ever after feels." You happily thought.
