A princess such as yourself was never really expected to do much. You spent your days living in a beautiful castle. Your father never visited you. He made sure to give you a room on the other side of the castle. Hidden away from the world and your family.

You would spend countless hours reading books that a kind old servant maid gave you in secret. She raised you to be humble and intelligent. Your books were mostly fairytale works. Your favorites being the ones about dragons and heroes.

All was decently boring, until one day. You were napping peacefully on your giant bed when your father came through your door. He gently roused you and sat at the edge of your bed. He had a tired and weary expression on his gray face and you wondered why he had come to speak with you after all this time.

"F-father? What is the meaning of this?" You asked puzzled as you pulled your blankets around you and sat up. Your father gave you a grim look.

"I, I need you to do something for me, nay, your kingdom."

"What is that father?" You felt a little excited. Your father finally acknowledged your presence! You were sure that you could help out in any way you could. You were prepared for anything.

Until he told you what he wanted from you.

"The kingdom has been threatened by a monstrous beast, The Wyvern, he claims he can burn the entirety of my castle to the ground. He requires a sacrifice. You, my dear." Your eyes widened and you jumped from the bed away from your father.

"Please my darling. Please be reasonable."

"Reasonable? How can I be reasonable? I ask that you think about what this means! I'm going to be devoured by a bloodthirsty monster!" You screamed at your apathetic father.

"Please, please calm yourself Y/ N. Think about the rest of the kingdom." You breathed steadily in and out and you began to consider your options. You realised that you would be doing something with your life. Saving the entire kingdom surely would win you brownie points in the afterlife.

"I... Is there truly no other way?" You half whispered. Your father approached you solemnly and embraced you in a hug.

"I'm afraid so." He said sadly. You began to cry. Hot tears streaming down your face. Your father had no idea what to do in this situation. He had rarely ever seen you. Maybe once or twice on your birthday, but certainly not for this long with such intimacy.

"I will do it father. For the sake of the kingdom, and for the lives that the Wyvern would take." You said determined. Your father sighed in relief and guided you out of your room and into the main hall of the castle.

You were prepared to sacrifice your life for the greater good. Surely the Wyvern would be just as fearsome and terrifying as the stories that you grew up with?

Only time will tell.
