Julia wrote constantly, earbuds in and refusing to talk most of the time. 14 year old Julia was far off from becoming the elegant, organized woman she was now. Right now, all she was was a royal mess.
She was wearing the necklace Robert, her therapist, gave to her before he disappeared. Her parents were worried about her. As of lately, she had been very shut down.
Julia thought back to Hudson and teared up again, setting down her pencil with her slightly shaking hand.
"I understand what it's like to lose someone you love," Valentina said softly. "I'm sorry."
Julia jumped and nearly fell out of her chair. "Who's there?"
She looked around, but saw no one.
"I'm trapped in the necklace you got... I didn't know you could hear me. My name is Val," she replied.
"...Julia..."
"I know it's pretty odd, but life can be that way. But instead of moping, you and I can change what we can for the future. The past is set already."
Julia considered her words. "What can I do anyways?"
"A lot more than you think," Val smiled.Val never really liked Fred, but was glad to see her smile so she didn't say anything when they fell for each other. Julia began to learn that she was the vessel of such powerful energy and good. She used it when possible, becoming masterful in her skills.
With Fred and Valentina, Julia had a purpose in her life again. She loved him and Val and Julia planned to change the future. That was a future worth fighting for. She began to excel in school again, making her parents - particularly her father - proud.
After that night when Julia was shattered all over again, Val was furious at AJ and Fred. Julia felt so alone in college and the interaction she did have with anyone was usually Taylor's torments...
If Val could've talked to them, she would definitely have had some things to say. But all she could do was comfort her and try to keep her eating. When Casey got her out after graduation and had Julia as her assistant, things slightly improved. But when Casey sent Julia to Steven, her world slowly had color again.
Julia's dreams resurfaced through working for him and eventually, so did love. Val watched with approval as her life bettered thanks to a push from Julia's cousin.
Val finished reflecting over her life with Julia with a smile. Two kids and married now... Julia lived out Val's dream that Ender stole from her. She sighed slightly. If only things had been different... She never saw his betrayal coming.
Despite that, Valentina was very happy to have met Julia. Now she owed it to the world to stop her brother for the sake of the world and for her family...and her people. Long gone, they still wouldn't have wanted this.
With renewed determination, she stood from her reflection and took a deep breath. She was ready for Ender...ready to fight him. Ready to end this. And ready to win.
